But it was TOO DARK
I am SO glad I had the tile guy put a few pieces of the Dapple Gray tile on some drywall and then grout it with Delorean Gray because the Delorean gray grout ended up being too dark. It was considerably darker than the sample that Home Depot shows at the store.
After it tried, the Delorean Gray grout looked darker than the photos that other people have submitted to their reviews. Yes, I'm sure the bag of grout said "Delorean Gray." I'm wondering whether my tile guy made the grout spaces too wide and whether that would make the grout look darker. Don't know. Am looking for grout color that, when dry, is actually the same color as the grout that appears on the sample board at H.D. Don't want white grout lines with the Dapple Gray tile, but don't want dark grout lines either. Read Less

Delorian Gray blends into the tile and actually makes it look like part of the "wood". Natural gray was too dark and didn't look as good. Beautiful tile no matter what you use!

We used a charcoal gray (sanded) and it looks great. We needed something that was easy to clean and the darker grout covers up a lot of the dirt.

YES, I also see brown tones in some pieces of this tile. The tiles in a box or carton are NOT all exactly alike. They are meant to look like weathered, old barn wood which, of course, is not uniform. Photos posted by the reviewers show the variations.

But some of the tiles do have a little brown, but the majority are gray. If you look at the H.D. photo of the same tile except in the color "White Wash" -- the browns that appear in the White Wash tiles are also in some of the Dapple Gray tiles.
The stock photo of Dapple Gray that is posted on Home Depot inaccurately shows Dapple Gray to be much darker than it actually is. Dapple Gray is actually a much lighter gray.
The photos submitted by reviewers are much more accurate and closer to the actual color of the product.
Nevertheless, when you unpack the tile, watch for individual tiles that weren't quite produced correctly. These "wood-look" tiles, as I understand it, essentially have a photograph or photocopy of wood on them. We found a few tiles that had some blotches where the 'photocopy' failed and returned them as defective.
If you can't get to a H.D. store to look for yourself, contact the manufacturer 'Marazzi' and ask about having a sample mailed to you.
Or order a box of Dapple Gray, lay the tiles out for a look, and if you don't like them, you can return them to H.D. stores or ship them back. Read Less

I saw this tile in store and when I got home tried to find it online. The picture online is MUCH darker then in person. There is a lot more 'white' to it IMO in person.

Answer:
The pictures online don't do it justice. We went in confused about whether we were buying "dapple gray" or "white wash" because the online samples looked so vastly different from what we saw in store. We ended up buying the dapple gray, which I couldn't even tell that was the same one I was looking at on the website. It is MUCH grayer in person. No brown at all.

Answer:
Technically you could get away with 4, but that would leave very few extras for overage (to account for broken ones, cuts etc) so I would recommend buying 5. You can always take back the fifth if it is not needed.
6.5 X 8.5 = 55.25 (needed)
each case = 14.53 sq ft
4 = 58.12 (we usually recommend 10-15% for overage and 4 doesn't quite get you there)
5 = 72.65

6.5 x 8.5 = 55.25 sqft and 1 case covers 14.53, so 4 cases will cover 58.12 sqft but customer service would probably recommend that you purchase 5 cases just to be safe. I like to live dangerously so I'd order 4 cases. ;)

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Tile I chose this tile for a remodel of a half bathroom (about 16 sq. ft.) which was completed a few days ago and it looks amazing. The tile looks extremely modern and went perfectly with my design of the bathroom. May 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love the look of this tile! Was a bit skeptical at first, but after lo'ts of research and reading all the reviews, I decided to go with this tile for my home. I wanted something that looked just like wood but could handle people coming in wet from the pool and also accident's from my dogs. This tile wipes and cleans very easily and looks amazing specially after a quick mop. I went with the specified recommendations of 3/16 spacers and Delorean gray grout and I really love the way it came out. Good luck with your projects. April 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful is an understatement To just say this tile is beautiful is an understatement. Layed out this tile in the laundry room and bathroom and we LOVE it. The grout we used was delorean gray which I think has great gray tone to it but still allows this tile to shine. We will install this tile in our kitchen in about two months or so. We love the texture feel to it. We do recommend this tile! April 26, 2016
