The sides 4 inches the front you need to get to the controls so I would think at least a foot, the back mounts rite to the wall.

No you can do it your self, just stay in the codes on the instructions. It tells you what type of pipes to use for exhaust and water hook up.

3.1 GPM Liquid Propane Tankless Gas Water Heater is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from water heater for a sprinter/camper We bought this to replace a less expensive one, that seemed to be identical to others on internet, but it came from China. We did not realize was that was the source at the time, and it turned out to be defective, mainly due to a broken piece of pipe inside. Then the part they sent to replace it was not the correct size. This Marey brand model appears to be much better constructed and it has worked well for our us the few times we have used it so far. We now need to winterize and the Owners Manual is not very detailed about the process, so we will be checking with their customer service soon for guidance. We have read in reviews that they are helpful, so we trust that is true.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great priced product and relatively easy to install, it gives enough hot water to meet our needs ... Great priced product and relatively easy to install, it gives enough hot water to meet our needs and is so much more convenient than a bulky hot water tank. The only problem we have ( and its a BIG one) is that as we are on a spring water system our water pressure varies from 25 to 35 psi continually and that constantly changes the outgoing water temperature which makes taking a shower an art in itself, stepping into the water only in the middle of the pressure change. This unit is only really suitable for city water. I now have the choice of installing a pressure regulator or replacing this unit with a thermostatically controlled one, money either way !!! Maybe Home Depot will read this and offer me a deal ??

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We have had this heater approximately a month and it has outperformed my expectations. The water... We have had this heater approximately a month and it has outperformed my expectations. The water coming out of our well is a balmy 50 degrees, and we have this set up in a not very well insulated shower house. We have comfortably taken showers when it is below freezing in our shower room (we always drain the unit immediately afterward). We run this heater with the water flow low on the winter setting and the flame turned most of the way up, and it provides an abundance of hot water. If we turned it all the way up, it would be too hot to shower in. So far the only complaint I could think of is it tends to chew through D cell batteries pretty quickly. We started opening the battery cover so the batteries are disengaged while the unit is not in use to try to help keep them longer. We use rechargeable AA batteries around the house, so I got some AA to D converters on eBay so we can use our rechargeables in it. The last regular Ds we put in the heater haven't run out yet so I have yet to try this -- just food for thought. Otherwise I am extremely pleased with this tankless heater and plan to continue to use it in our home after we're done remodeling in lieu of a regular hot water heater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tankless instant hot water The customer lives in a retirement mobile home.where the gas company charges a $15 a month convenience fee for the pleasure of having a pipe hooked to your home wether or not you use the gas. Living alone on a fixed income, this customer couldn't afford to heat and store water. Where he lives ground water is warm enough to bath all summer without the heater going. I recommended the product, he made his decision immediately and has raved to all his other fixed income friends. I had had requests and will be installing more of them here.in the park.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Great but Not Bad The installation of this unit was easy, anyone can install this unit as long as you have some mechanical ability. This is for sure a point of use unit, or a portable unit. Do not expect a lot out of this unit, do not expect to heat the water for your whole house, a small camper yes, but not a house. The quality seems good with this unit I've used it a few times with no issues. Don't expect ANY help from the customer service line, I called them with a question and I was instructed to leave a message and an operator would call me back asap, I never got a call back and I called them twice! Very disappointed with there customer service! The unit is good for what's its designed for, point of use only!
