Yes. It also has an alert, for when the batteries are dying but if you don't catch it in time, you are given a set of keys also.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 39 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Get What You Pay For The locking mechanism did not work. Customer service had me take the cover off to find a broken solder joint coming from the battery pack. Fortunately I had the tools and skills to repair, don't know what would have happened if that weren't the case. Powder coating is chipping. Barely fits into wall with four inch studs. Adjustable feature a real pain to work with. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect in wall safe that is expandable. Met my expectations! Easy to install and program. Must purchase batteries seperately. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Installed easily - looks great - works great This is the 2nd wall safe I've installed. If your comfortable using tools and cutting a hole in the wall then this is a piece of cake to install. The expandability feature is ok. In most walls your only going to get a few inches of depth. I didn't use the set screws - just popped the safe in the wall and drove the anchors into the studs. Removing the door makes installation much easier. As far as Safes go - this is more about keeping your stuff out of the hands of kids not from professional burglers - unless you have a good place to hide it. October 9, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good wall safe. Not sure the expandable part is necessary since it is more trouble than it is worth. You are better off getting an exact measurement and buying a safe of that depth. November 3, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Installation was more time consumming than we thought it would be The safe was heavy which was expected and according to the directions for installation we should have been able to pry off the pins for the door to remove them to make it lighter to install but only one pin would come out. After about 1 hour of my husband trying to pry the 2nd one off he put the other pin back in and just muscled it into the wall to install. One of the four bolts going into the studs sheared off before it was flush but at least it had threads still showing on the inside of the box so it doesn't give any from the wall. Other than that box is stout and will allow you to expand if you have deeper walls than the standard 2 x 4 but there isn't a lot of shelf space when you have 2 x 4 walls. I have to come up with a way of getting larger things in there so they don't fall out still. August 18, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible Waste of Money. This product is unusable and can not be installed in a standard depth stud wall. Don't waste your money on it. August 18, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Don't just take it from me -see the other reviews: this is a DIFFICULT INSTALL Here's the deal: it's a nice looking safe and Mesa's customer service is great, if there's an issue. And you WILL likely have an issue. Unless you are installing the unit between unfinished studs (no drywall) -AND you have easy access to both sides of the wall- you are going to have trouble. I've installed 4 of these units (either for myself or other people I know who purchased them) and half of them were defective, right out of the box (either dented, poorly aligned or missing parts). Working with Mesa (mfr) was easy; it was just disappointing that I had to do so. I gave it a 3-out-5 for value because it seems to be the exact same unit as one sold by First Alert but that one is priced about $50 higher. The instructions 'recommend' removing the door for easier installation but the truth is, it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to install without removing the door because you can't reach put in the screws located behind the door, when the door is open. And you can't put screws in with the door closed, so you HAVE to remove the door. But once the door is removed and the unit is installed, GOOD LUCK getting that door back on! If you have a wide open area with room to work, no drywall and access to both sides of the wall (as the instructions were seemingly written), then you'll have no problem installing the unit. Otherwise, look at the other reviews. Any slight variance in layout and you're going to have a challenge on your hands. A decent unit, once it's installed, though the depth of the unit is also difficult to adjust, as it never quite tightens fully. You kind of need to jiggle it into place and I don't think "jiggling" should be a necessary installation technique. Hope this helps...and Good Luck! April 27, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not great for standard 2x4 walls Other reviewers have also said that the assembly of this safe is complicated and they are right. There are only 3 pieces and about a dozen screws but I had to assemble and disassemble it 3 times to get it right. Also, it is likely that the screws will interfere with the door if you have a standard 2x4 wall and you may only discover that after installing it in the wall. Once installed, safe is okay. Door and front frame are heavy 1/4 inch thick steel but there are open slots in the interior walls where small items could fall through or bugs could crawl into the safe. In conclusion, there must be better choices for standard walls but if you need the extra depth this may be one of the few choices. May 22, 2012
