This is the 2nd wall safe I've installed. If your comfortable using tools and cutting a hole in the wall then this is a piece of cake to install. The expandability feature is ok. In most walls your only going to get a few inches of depth. I didn't use the set screws - just popped the safe in the wall and drove the anchors into the studs. Removing the door makes installation much easier. As far as Safes go - this is more about keeping your stuff out of the hands of kids not from professional burglers - unless you have a good place to hide it.

I read many posts regarding the difficulty in assembly prior to purchase. The assembly is very easy if you are familiar with a screw driver and box wrench. The recessed door and premium gauge steel offer prevention against a frontal assault. The paint job wasn't the best so if you are an aesthetic freak, this may not be your cup of tea.
I made a few modifications for I use this as a pistol safe only to keep the weapon out of the reach of children. I disconnected the piezo that alarms when the keypad buttons are pushed (allows privacy when opening). I then installed a high-pitch piezo with micro-switch, backup battery pack and override switch that I could activate at will. This would allow me to alarm the door so that when opened by anyone other than myself, a loud siren would report (all of this was picked up at a well known, nationwide, electronic store). Another aftermarket upgrade was that I went to a hobby store and picked up adhesive felt and lined the inside of the safe. This made removing and placing articles inside the safe much quieter as anything metal was noisy when removing or inserting.
The con to this and any safe of this size is that it's portable. Any home burglar could find an array of tools in a garage to cut this wall safe out from the studs that it's attached to and walk off with it. The upside is that the door and frame are made of a heavy gauge steel which correlates to a very heavy article to carry. It has also been mentioned in previous reviews that the amount of internal space is limited due to the housing that the locking mechanism is encased in. This is true, so beware that if you are using a standard 2 x 4 stud wall, the central shelf compartment will almost be obsolete for anything of considerable size.
The bottom line is to purchase what fits your needs. I'm certain that you will not find anything comparable to price with what you will find with this Mesa wall safe. Great product for the price. If you are looking to store and protect priceless heirlooms, purchase a 1200lb+, fire rated floor safe and securely bolt it to the floor. Either that or a safe deposit box like the rest of the modern world. Good luck!

Rated 1 out of 5Â by todd nice unit but came in defective and bent
seems like a good product but it came in bent and the pin keeps falling out of the door. I don't recommend this product, since it is built into the wall my option to return it becomes a big expense for me.

Poor installation instructions made installation difficult. Although the safe appears solid the company could improve the safe to make it an easier install.
