Customer Questions & Answers

can you bolted it to floor?

can you bolted it to floor?
Asked by: art
It is pre-drilled with 4 holes in the bottom that have plastic plugs to cover them. It also comes with two concrete wedge-type anchors. You will need a 1/2" masonry bit to drill holes in the concrete floor to install these. You need to be handy here. There are no instructions except on how to work the combination. You can call the manufacturer for help, if you need it. But I think it's mainly for problems with operating the combination. I did not need help to anchor it. Just a pencil, a drill and a masonry bit.

This safe weighs 225 Lbs. Is curb side delivery only option?

Asked by: Buyer
I had this delivered to my local HD store. I picked it up and they loaded it into my van. It is heavy, but manageable with two people, preferably with an appliance dolly.

Interior dimensions?

What are the interior dimensions?
Asked by: Sebastian
Is the body overall thickness miss typed? For one, on your website it says 1-1/4" but here it says 1-3/4". Not only is it printed, but how would the interior dimensions be exactly the same as the one with an electronic lock if the body overall thickness is different, but the exterior dimensions are the same? Please clarify.

3.9 cu. ft. Fire Resistant Combination Lock Burglary and Fire Safe is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 14.

The box an packing appeared to be rather minimal, but it arrived in good condition, with no damage, even though the box itself was damaged. The safe was easy to use and was not hard to move with two people. It is very well made. The only plastic parts are the silver plugs on the hinges. The door is removable, but is heavy, so be careful. It came with numerous silica desiccant bags. The combination lock is metal and operates smoothly. It has plenty of room for a box of vertical files and other valuables. The seals are not water tight. In fact, they don't fit snugly at all. That's because they are designed to swell when heated in a fire. If water or moisture is a concern for your contents, put them in a watertight container that won't melt at 350 degrees. After seeing competing products that were all plastic inside, I feel that this all-steel product is worth the additional cost. Would I buy it again? Yes, absolutely. This is quality merchandise, and don't forget to anchor it with the included hardware.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from When at first they can't succeed, order again .. I was going to order the 6 cu ft Mesa safe, but after looking at the pros and cons regarding where the safe was going to be placed, I went with the 3.9 cu ft safe. I chose the combo dial after talking to several safe experts .. every one of them stated that with a dial combination, it's the very rare exception that the lock breaks .. but with an electronic lock, it's not a matter of if the lock will fail, but when the lock will fail. This can be backed up when you look at the fine print regarding the lock's warranty. The FIRST time, I chose the store delivery because I didn't want to deal with 'we won't bring it to the garage, we won't get it out of the truck, we don't want to take the damaged safe back, sorry we missed you', etc. So I placed the order and the safe was at the store in a short period of time. I went to pick it up and the box was BADLY damaged. My failure was that I didn't remove the box and the bubble wrap to actually look at the safe. It seemed okay through the bubble wrap so I accepted the safe. (For the weight of the safe, the packaging was LOUSY.) They loaded the safe in the back of my vehicle and I took it home and slid it into the house. As we were unboxing it, one of our youngin's asked if the dial should be hard to turn. At first I thought it might be the lever being mispositioned, but as I finished getting the box and the bubble wrap off, I realized I had made a big (and heavy) mistake taking it home. The dial was at a 20 degree angle and wouldn't turn. There was a long deep gouge on one side that I had missed .. there was a matching long thin hole in the box. The worst damage was a 2 inch long diagonal flat spot on the upper right corner. It had to have hit hard from a significant height to have that kind of a dent at the corner. So the safe was totally useless. I had read another reviewer who stated they got a Mesa safe with a damaged and bent lock and just bent it back and used it damaged. For the money I spent, I was not going to keep a very damaged safe. So we man handled the safe back onto the vehicle (it was much easier getting it out, really painful getting it back in) and it went back to the store that evening .. I didn't want to deal with new employees questioning if I had damaged the safe. They gave me credit and I went home, took some pain reliever and ordered another safe. The SECOND order was sent to the store so I could do a complete inspection prior to accepting delivery. It was fortunate that I didn't wait to place the order because the next day the safe commodity market responded and the safe's price when up again. (If you don't like the current price, wait a few days and check again. The Mesa safe prices fluctuate quite a bit.) As the first order (the damaged safe) came quickly, I expected the same for the second safe .. nope. It sat in Orlando for a week. The delivery date went from Thursday-Friday to Friday-Saturday to Sunday for several days and then 'no delivery date scheduled, contact the shipper' or something to that effect. So I called HD's 800 number. The customer service rep told me that I could contact the shipper .. the one moving it from the HD warehouse to the HD store .. I told her she could do it. She called be back about an hour later and then as if by magic, the safe was at the store ready for pickup. I'm not sure if the safe was actually being delivered or if it had already been at the store, but there was no reason for it to have sat in Orlando for a week. So I went to the store, was pleasantly surprised to find the safe's box undamaged. The box was opened and the bubble wrap was removed and the safe was inspected on all sides. Again, I was pleasantly surprised that it was in like new shape. I got it home, inspected it again and installed it. On a side note, I didn't like the combo it came with, not the best number to remember. So I called a local quality locksmith and safe shop and found that I can have them change the combination for $35 and it only takes about 15 minutes. The door easily lifts up off the hinge (though it is heavy, so use caution) .. just make sure the hinge pins stay with the safe .. you don't want to lose a hinge pin. Overall, I'm happy with the SECOND safe, but the frustration and hassle of dealing with a badly damaged safe, the return and the wait for the second safe all tainted want should have been a fairly easy endeavor.
