Customer Questions & Answers

what rough in faucets do i need for a moen ts2713bn?

Asked by: Anonymous
If I understand your question, you are asking how do I prepare the rough plumbing to receive the Moen Single Handle Tub & Shower Faucet Trim Kit. This trim kit is set up for the Moen Posi-Temp valve which is served by the hot and cold water connections connected from the sides. The valve feeds vertical connections up to the shower head and down to the tub spout. Installing the valve requires a fair amount of skill to solder connect the copper pipe or you risk damaging the valve. Are you and advanced DIYer or do you want to hire a plumber for the rough plumbing? Plan where the head, valve and spout are to be located. A shower head is often set around 80" above the floor of the tub. The valve at 36 to 40" above the floor of the tub. The spout must be set to clear the rim of the tub. Depth of the rough plumbing is determined by the thickness of the wall with its finish. Moen does provide information about how much the valve stem needs to extend beyond the surface of the finished wall in order to receive its valve handle. The shower head must have a copper to threaded pipe adapter to receive the nickel finished shower head extension pipe. The tub spout requires about 4" of clean and straight copper pipe to extend through the wall. The spout receives the copper pipe and has a clamping mechanism to make a firm connection. So, plan the location of the head, valve and spout. Provide firm support to the wall framing for these three points. Assure that the valve, shower head connection and spout pipe are set at the proper depth. Good luck.

Is this all steel with no plastic trim parts?

Asked by: newkitchen
I purchased the nickel finish trim kit and was very impressed with the product. It is very heavy metal and well finished. The only plastic in the trim kit is in the interior of the tub spout that provides a water seal around the copper pipe where it extends out of the wall. If you are doing a retro-fit to an existing shower/tub that now uses a posi-temp valve, you may need to create a copper pipe with a soldered pipe adapter to connect the tub spout. (I needed to solder together that piece because my plumbing was set up for threaded pipe.) I installed the trim kit while remodeling a bathroom in my home and I plan to use this trim kit in building two new homes.

Is the rough-in valve included?

Does the Moen 90deg Tub/Shower kit (Model # TS2713, Internet # 202920571) include the rough-in valve in the kit? I am asking because the web listing shows rough in valves as "Accessories" to this item, so I would like to confirm that one is included with the kit at the cost of $132.36. Thanks.

Retrofitted this over an 18 year old Moen Monticello everything fit perfectly. With a new valve cartridge, it's like a new faucet without the labor of actually replacing the valve body. Shower head is large and seems to put out a lot of water considering gpm restrictions. Take care when installing the slip on tub spout over copper pipe, especially if it's older pipe. Pipe needs to be clean and free of any hard water deposits / rough spots or it will grab hold of the "O" ring seal and pull it out of the recess it needs to be in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality of the Moen trim kit was excellent--Lack of information created some surprises. . . Moen's Nickel finish 90 degree trim kit for their posi-temp shower/tub valve is attractive and very well made. Moen continues to lag in providing good product information that would inform the plumber how to prepare for the trim kit. The tub spout is set up to receive the cut end of 1/2" type L copper pipe. (Type M can be used, but some force and lubricant is required to seat the pipe into the spout.) The shower head extension is a threaded connection. Usually both connections are threaded. It's helpful to know this when installing the valve in the wall. Moen does not provide this information.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Just ok I really like the sleek look of this set, BUT the shower head rod is WAY TOO short which causes the water to splash all over the handle and tub spout, you can see the screws on the wall plate...TACKY... and the tub spout drips while you shower. Installed three spouts and all three dripped. Design flaw?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Faulty Cartridge I had this shower kit installed in November and it developed a leak two days ago after about 4 months of use. The plumber discovered that the cartridge was the problem, specifically the o-rings. Total cost of new cartridge ($44) and plumber's labor ($150), $194 to fix the faucet. The only positive thing I can say is that I'm grateful it was just the cartridge and not the valve installed in the wall in November when the whole shower kit was installed. A faulty valve would have required having the tiles cut again and I'd be a lot angrier and poorer than I am right now. Home Depot is sending me a $50 HD gift card as compensation for the cartridge but unfortunately they do not reimburse a plumber's bill. Moen used to be a quality product, but apparently they are no longer reliable. I will never purchase another Moen product again. 4/17/15 UPDATE: The replacement cartridge started leaking after 5 days. It was an after-market cartridge made for Moen and not an authentic Moen part. I called Moen and they agreed to reimburse me if I purchased an authentic Moen cartridge to replace the second leaky cartridge. They offered to mail me one but they were backordered for a couple of weeks and I didn't want to wait because the dripping faucet was really annoying. The new Moen cartridge was installed this morning and my fingers are crossed that I don't have any more problems with this shower faucet. I will never purchase another Moen product again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great design I always have had good luck with moen products, the quality and the great line of this product was great, it fit my need perfectly. The only difficulty was it was not sold in the sold, and that I had to wait for it to come and we are on a very short deadline to complete our project.
