Answer:
I'm curious also, seems a waste of effort and money to remove a perfectly good workhorse valve that never fails for a new one that is an unknown, plus the additional expense involved. Reusing the existing valve needlessly restricts replacement choices.

Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot, Keith. You may want to pull this unit out of your shower in order to check the entire unit to verify there are no leaks. Normally no water get behind the trim plate. A small bead of silicon can also be used around the plate to keep water out. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Customer Reviews

Rated 3.1 out of 5 by 135 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We are enjoying it. We bought this product for a second bathroom because we already had one in another bathroom and have been very pleased with it. May 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Garbage I am a contractor who has installed this system in the last two washrooms I've built. In both instances, the mechanism in the spout restricts waterflow to the point that water builds up and spews out of the showerhead simultaneously. Despite the fact I followed the instructions, despite the fact that I've been successfully renovating washrooms for ten years, and despite the fact that this has never happened with any other product I've installed, the customer rep at Moen insisted it was my fault and all that could be done was shipping me a replacement (that obviously would also not work due to the fundamental engineering flaw in the design). Absolutely do not buy this product, nor any other Moen garbage. It's built to fail and they refuse to own up to that fact. March 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Moen Banbury shower kit This product was almost completely plastic. I expected a better quality product for the price. I returned it to the store and got my money back. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MOEN products have been used by me before and are easy to clean and care for. this was a great buy and was very easy to install by the directions given! April 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Modern Addition to Bathroom A stylish addition to the bathroom. It looks nice it our updated bathroom. April 12, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by beautiful but stopped shutting off in 6 months It is very attractive! I was happy with everything but then the shower handle stopped working properly soon after installation. It now will not completely shut off when in the off position which is hard to find since the handle won't stop. I am sure Moen will send me a replacement part (they have been good about that in the past-great customer service), but it's a pain especially after such a short time of use. February 27, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by valve leaks Followed installation instructions exactly, but still had a major problem. The shower spout leaks considerably when just the bathtub spout should be on. I double-checked all of the trouble-shooting tips in the installation guide and still the problem persists. I searched online after completing the installation and discovered unfortunately that several others have had this same issue with this product. It is very frustrating that it is a known reoccurring issue and Moen is still putting these faulty valves on the shelf. ALSO, the tub spout on display in the store is metal. The tub spout in the box is plastic... I wish I would have read online reviews before purchasing this product in the store. Now I have to decide if I want to live with the leaky shower head every time I fill up the bathtub for the kids or not. It wasn't super difficult to install, but uninstalling and reinstalling another one is a frustrating endeavor. December 21, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT BUY I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing. It has been leaking water ever since the contractor installed it. Also, everything outside and inside is plastic (i got the 'chrome' one). It will easily break if you close it tightly. December 4, 2015
