Installation without base plate - will it still swivel?

Hi, I need to install this unit without the base plate as my granite kitchen top does not have enough space for it. Will the faucet still swivel if there is no base plate? I noticed that in response to another question of swivel, it was said the entire body swivels - if that is so, I guess it won't swivel if you don't install the base plate? (otherwise the faucet would get loose over time)
Asked by: nickym
I installed it with the base plate, but yes, it should swivel without the baseplate. The surface it sits on will have to be flat though. The base plate also has two tabs that hold the faucet straight, however. So I imagine it could work loose after awhile. But, then again, people are having problems with the base plate spinning after a while as it has no extensions to fit in the outer holes of the sink to hold it in place.

After shopping around, I actually chose another faucet ,but package missed my delivery date and I ran to Home Depot to pick up the best faucet I could find. Boy, I was surprised to find such a nice faucet for a reasonable price. I love the stainless steel finish with "stain free" finish. Even with moist hands, I didn't leave any smudges on the faucet. This is important, because I have 3 little kids. I also like the clean modern look, without it commanding too much space. Some of the newer faucets look gigantic and silly. I also like the pull out spray and the cord is very flexible (lightweight and easy to use).

Awkward o-ring installation at base of unit. Optional deck plate has no extensions into outer two holes, so if your sink has no lip next to the deck plate, it will eventually spin. Mine has a lip the deck plate sits nicely against, but I still siliconed it down. Installation problems: Manual is very poorly written with tiny text and full of errors. Not a straight-forward installation. Reliability: Just installed it so I can't report. I suspect I'll have problems within a year. Landlord wouldn't pay for much so this is the best I could find.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement for 20 year old Moen Faucet Tried to replace the original cartridge in the 20 year old Moen pull out faucet, but couldn't budge the brass fitting out of its socket, so I opted to replace the entire faucet. Took about an hour to install and it looks great, hope it lasts another 20 years.

Purchased two weeks ago to replace a Pfister faucet for which replacement parts could no longer be obtained. We bought on the recommendation that this was a best seller. The faucet reach is less than the one it replaced making it somewhat difficult to rinse larger dishes or fill pots. Also, because of the short faucet length, dishes are close to the back of the sink when rinsing and more splashing on to the counter top occurs. Also, the handle is quite short which means when adjusting or turning the flow on or off with wet hands, water gets dripped on the counter top around the faucet. The ability to adjust flow rate works very well. We bought the one with stainless steel finish and it looks good and cleans well.

I bought two of these faucets and within 1 year the pull out hoses started leaking near the neck connection inside the wand. It will just drip under your sink and you have no idea unless you look under your sink frequently. Unfortunately this was not noticed for weeks so the cabinet was completely soaked under the sink. I went to Home Depot and was told this is a SUPER COMMON PROBLEM with this faucet. I went to our local plumbing store and was told the same thing. I was told Moen would replace the hose for free. I have been on hold 20 minutes with Moen so far as I write this review. Boo! I bought a replacement hose from Moen at my local plumbing store which did not fit. Total hassle. Don't buy this faucet! You would think if you spend $179 it would be better than this!

Spray Nozzle is stainless painted plastic. Estuchen plate is plastic. Pull out sprayer has poor ergonomics with a joint to the hose which does not have a universal rotation. Retraction does not work smoothly. Sprayer does not easily seat back in the faucet housing but must be repositioned to fit after each use. Pinched a finger in the handle mounting. The 120 degree rotation of the faucet is not sufficient to reach all areas of the double sink without using the spray nozzle. DI NOT USE IN AN OFFSET INSTALLATION. . Unit will have to be replaced and plumber's bill duplicated. Four times the cost ultimately. Recommend Home Depot remove product from inventory. Profoundly disappointed!! Previous experiences with Home Depot positive.

The faucets normal flow is generally fine. There are two very important things you need to know about this faucet though. First, as the normal flow is fine, the sprayer flow is very strong and thin and unless you have it on slower flow rate, the water splashes all over the place. Second, the handle. It doesn't stay in play. Every time you push the handle to one side or the other, the handle pops out. Those are the reasons I gave it four stars.
