My 1255 was for a kitchen faucet. So the answer to your question is "no."

I have a 30 year old Moen single handle shower faucet that is in need of a replacement valve. Would the Moen Model 1255 work?

If the 1255 won't work in my situation, do I need the Model 1225 replacement cartridge, and do I need the special puller tool, or any other parts?
Asked by: Anonymous
Hello Bill. Thank you so much for your interest in Moen products. The Moen 1255 will not work in your shower that is 30yrs old. If your shower has a push/pull handle, you will need a 1225B replacement cartridge. If the handle just rotates you will need a 1222B cartridge. I have a Moen Brantford kitchen faucet that uses this cartridge 1255 (I found the illustrated parts list online). I was ready to buy this part to fix a leak but decided to read the reviews. Thanks y'all. The plastic cartridge nut was loose. I tightened it up and the leak is gone. I will just put this on my regular yearly maintenance list to open up and tighten up. Easy. And if tightening doesn't work then I know where to get a new cartridge. Instructions are found on the Moen site in the form of a video if you need them. Also very good.

I hope this one does not fail because when the other one did, the leak created a huge problem. It soaked the cabinets under the sink and leaked into the crawl space. The water was leaking back inside through the faucet and running down the water lines and we didn't realize it. I replaced the cartridge in about 15 minutes. That includes looking at the instructions, getting an adjustable wrench, and using the allen wrench they provided in the package. I believe it would be easy for anyone to install if you have any type of mechanical abilities.

I determined that this wasn't at fault, so now I have a spare. The Moen kitchen faucet we were using will trap any sand particles that happen to get into the (well) water and eventually completely close off the flow of water. A design issue apparently with this particular model. We have since discarded the Moen, and are using a different brand that will not behave in the same manner, should sand get into our system again. If you think you need one of these cartridges, better check the entire faucet, first. These cartridges are made of an extremely hard synthetic material, and I'm not really sure you could do anything to it to stop it from working correctly.

No matter what adjustments I made, I could not get a sufficient amount of hot water from the faucet. I contacted Moen and spent 30 minutes troubleshooting with them and after going through several steps it was determined that the cartridge had a manufacturing issue. I have no idea if this is a common issue but I decided to save my self any further grief and frustration and purchased a new faucet instead. Once the new faucet was installed, everything worked properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cost Less Than A New Faucet! I had an estimate of $240 to replace the faucet. After looking up this Moen faucet on the web and learning that cartridge failure is common, I decided to try replacing cartridge first. It worked perfectly and solved the problem. $18 or $240? No brainer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Leaky design probably not the cartridge I've had to repair my 2013 Moen Haysfield several times. After a few months, the faucet handle drips and some of the water goes through the housing a soaks the cabinet below. Simply tightening the cartridge nut solves the issue. I notice that Moen recommends replacing the cartridge nut when replacing the cartridge. I suspect a faulty design that loosens with heavy use. I have yet to replace any parts, just tightened it back up. This time with some thread sealant to keep the nut tight. Believe it or not, I would probably buy another one and assume the problem has been addressed. The rest of the unit is far superior to other brands at the same price. I like it a lot when it works!
