Can this Trim kit fit my moen diverter valve that I have for the Moen rubbed oil bronze one I have now?

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for interest in Moen tub and shower products. We make three basic types of single handle valves. Visually, they all look very similar; however there are major operational differences. The Posi-Temp is a pressure balanced cycling valve. To activate the water you rotate the handle counter-clockwise. As you continue to turn it, the valve will give you a mix of hot and cold at straight up 12 o'clock and the handle reaches its furthest point at 9 o'clock offering full, hot water. Posi-Temp does NOT have volume control, so the amount of water remains constant. In short, the handle rotates only; there is no push pull action to this valve. The two screws that hold the 7" round escutcheon plate to the wall are located at 2 and 7 o'clock. If you wanted to change the look of this fixture without changing the valve you can switch to any trim style that is Posi-Temp. Moentrol is also pressure balanced but has a push-pull type handle to activate the water. If you pull it out half-way, you will get half the volume. If you pull it out all the way, you will get the water at full force. Turn the knob to the left for hot and the right for cold. Simply push it in to turn it off. It also has temperature memory, which means if you shut the water at a warm temperature setting (say the 10 o'clock position). It will be at that same warm temperature next time you pull out the handle. The two screws that hold the 7" round escutcheon plate to the wall are located at 2 and 7 o'clock. If you wanted to change the look of this fixture without changing the valve you can switch to any trim style that is Moentrol. Moen Standard valves are non-pressure balanced and have a push-pull type handle to activate the water. The two screws that hold the 7" round escutcheon plate to the wall are located at the bottom at 5 and 7 o'clock. If you wanted to change the look of this fixture without changing the valve, you can switch to any trim style that has the screws located at the bottom and is Standard or you can purchase the Moen part 145058 that will adapt the Standard valve to accept Moentrol trim. I normally wouldn't respond to an email from Anyone asking me to review a product, but I'm hoping if you have an older Moen 1-handle shower valve, that my review helps you, since I went to a lot of trouble & wasted a few hundred dollars on my shower valve. My house was built in '77 and it was easy finding a valve cartridge but a handle was near impossible to find. I figured I'd have to cut a hole in the wall and replace the valve in order to get a new handle but then I got a banner ad for this handle & I figured what the heck, another 100 bucks can't hurt that bad. I was shocked when I tried the fit and it actually worked. Since the valve stem on my shower is a little shorter, I placed some cut washers on the threaded end of the screw that holds the handle on, and perfection. If you have an older valve, try this handle first & I hope you get as lucky as I did.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from integral stops are horrible the integral stop design makes no sense. It's a pressure sensitive spring loaded valve rather than a simple stop valve. Therefore it's more prone to failure. It took me months to figure out this is why my shower's not producing hot enough water. I replaced the 1225 cartridge and the balance spool at a total cost of about $75 to no avail. Finally I started playing around with the stops and was able to get hot water, but only temporarily. I'm at the point now where I'm simply going to remove the spring and washer parts, and/or try to obtain the simple cap to remove the stop valves completely.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as pictured We bought this to match sink and tub faucets. It does not install as pictured; the lever sits approximately 1/2 away from the base when installed. The biggest issue is that the supplied handle screw is brass and Moen placed thread lock tape on the screw. When I installed it, the screw seized at the thread lock tape and snapped off. I had to buy a new valve cartridge and re-thread the screw. Additionally, the instructions are absolutely worthless. There is no text, just pictures with no explanation as what or why certain parts may or may not be required. Moen...you can do better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent quality valve with shut off stops. Moen makes a good valve that will last many years and you won't get stuck with parts unavailability. The shut off stop screws on the left and right enable you to change the valve components later without shutting off the water to the whole house. The Kinsley trim pieces that we got to go with it are very nice looking. I don't know what some people are thinking when they put a fancy European shower valve in. What is one to do years later when the design is changed and you can't get replacement parts anymore? We had to special order this relatively standard item, as it was not stocked in the store. It took 8 days to arrive. I paid $93.49 for this Moentrol valve in July of 2013 and the price as of 10/18/2013 is currently $122.21. A 30% price increase. When we have a large project, it is important to stick to a timeline and keep costs under control. 8 days shipping is excessive. I would recommend this valve, but Home Depot needs to do better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like the Stops for future catridge replacements As we prepared to soldier this valve in place, all the components with o-rings came out well and then went back in place nicely. The hot water stop for the handle worked nicely for the kids. Would definitely recommend this valve!
