Shower was dripping...so time to replace the cartridge. It was last replaced 6 years ago. They seem to last about that long.
Some tips: 1) take pics as you disassemble - they will come in handy later; 2) shove a towel under the assembly to prevent the clip from falling; 3) Slide a paper clip through the clip to be able to securely remove it and not have it drop.
Once installed, the water control is smooth once again and the dripping has stopped.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Me Too expensive. But stopped the leak.
My shower cartridge began to leak after only 3 years. At $39 this is an expensive repair. I'm disappointed in Moen's quality/price. That being said the replacement was fairly easy after watching a couple of youtube videos. The little white plastic removal tool was essential to getting the old cartridge out. It took about 15 minutes of slowly rotating the cartridge back and forth with a set of channel locks on the plastic tool. Finally the cartridge slid out about half an inch on the beveled edge of the valve. It took another 10 minutes of pulling and then rotating with the tool to finally coax the old cartridge out. Remember to pay attention to the H/C label orientation of the old cartridge before removing and lube up the new cartridge rubber seals liberally with the included lubricant before installing.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dennis Buy Moen brand cartridges only.
Always purchase OEM (Moen) brand valve cartridges.....or Delta for Delta brand valves. Once the old valve was removed, installation of new Moen valve was easy. This was my 3rd replacement in 3 different homes. Be sure to obtain some silicon fawcett grease beyond the lubricant Moen provides.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by HCLGA Moen cartridge
After several years the builder installed cartridge became very hard to turn. Once I made a tool to extract the old cartridge it was fairly easy to remove. I lubricated the seals, but that lasted only a short time so I I installed a new cartridge. After about four years the replacement is getting difficult to turn. At $40.00 per cartridge I think I should get more life than that, especially with only two people using it six months a year.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ebi replacement works better than original
the original cartridge started leaking after 2 years of normal use. We called MOEN, they sent a replacement right away for free. But meanwhile a small water stream was flowing out of the shower head. So I went to Homedepot, bought a replacement, exchanged it and took the leaking cartridge apart to see whats going on inside. I found out, an O-ring was damaged during assembling the cartridge. Since I had o-rings this size I replaced it and - I must admit - damaged them myself during re-assembling. Anyway, the new cartridge, replaced with lots of silicon grease, runs great. Thanks to Homedepot and Moen.

The installation was easy. Included written instructions could have been better. I watched a video on Youtube for a better explanation.
