If I installed this in my basement, do I still need a moisture barrier or can this simply be laid down on the concrete with the flooring on top?
Asked by: Lassie
If it is a floating floor you are installing over, yes. We recommend the 6mil vapor barrier down first. If you are laying tile, a good sealer on the concrete would be good practice.

Use with Resilient (vinyl)-Plank flooring-Can it be done?

I have trafficmaster interlocking Resilient plank floor. I believe the manufacturer says 1/2" above heating. How would I lay it down? glue heated underlayment, glue or nail 1/2" ply and then vinyl plank flooring???
Asked by: DaveJ
Yes, to keep within spec of the manufacturer of the flooring...you would want to install a layer of ply or luan over the radiant heat panels and then install your flooring over that layer.

My home is 5 feet of ground so my subfloor is over a ope n crawl space do I need to put down some insulation padding before the heat mat to prevent

heat loss downward?
Asked by: tahoe
Yes, you will want to use an underlayment with a good R-value. Something like the Trafficmaster Fiber underlayement with attached vapor barrier is a good choice. 100 sq. ft. 3 ft. x 33.34 ft. x 1/8 in. Underlayment with Attached Vapor Barrier

3 ft. x 10 ft. x 1/8 in. Heated Underlayment is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy way to provide extra heating to a room. I installed this heating underlayment mat under an engineered hardwood floor. It was eay to install and worked beautifully. My daughter's room tends to be cooler than other rooms in our household so I used the heated underlayment as a supplement. No more space heaters needed anymore!
