Home Depot's Best Underlayment smoothes out little sub floor imperfections while quieting impact sound and floor to ceiling noise. Not only does it dampen ambient sound in the room it's installed in, but it also inhibits sound from traveling into the room below. Although it is promoted as an upgrade underlayment taking the place of poly foam, it doesn't carry a heavy upgrade price when compared to cork or rubber. On the other hand, in recent head-to-head Sound Transmission Loss tests, Home Depot's Best Underlayment outperformed both cork and rubber in the majority of test band frequencies. Certified field sound tests were performed on an installation over a standard 6 in. concrete sub floor, and received an FIIC score of 71.

  • Environmentally friendly, utilizing over 89% recycled fibers, green choice versus all the petroleum-based underlayment on the market
  • Synthetic fiber pads are fast becoming the most specified underlayment for floating wood and laminate floors by architects and designers because of their acoustical and moisture protection qualities
  • Superior acoustical test scores that generally meet or exceed the requirements for sound barriers between floors in multiple housing construction set forth by most municipality or condominium association building codes
  • Roll measures 400 in. x 36 in. x 1/8 in.
  • Designed to draw sound in and help deaden it, not deflect, helping make laminate floors sound more like real wood
  • It has an Impact Insulation Class (IIC) rating of 60 and a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of 54
  • Offers great moisture protection
  • Can be installed over wood or concrete sub floors

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to work with and install We just completed installing engineered wood floors (HomeLegends) and used the recommended BEST UNDERLAYMENT, it was very easy to install and helped "even out" the little flaws in the cement slab we were installing on. It is comfortable to walk on and seems to block out noise. June 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent product Were in the process of finishing our basement. We took off our existing laminate flooring that we install 7 years ago. The underlayment film we used then I realized was pretty much non existent. It was so thin and it sounded hollow when you walk on the laminate. This underlayment we used this time is a very good material that really absorbs noise and solid to the feel and sound as you walk on the floor. And it does not have the harmful toxic fumes that other products have. At first I thought it was pricey but its really worth it. Moisture and mold resistant too. very important. March 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product Easy to install and looks beautiful. Will definitely be purchasing more for other rooms. June 23, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fair value It is a quality product. Just note that it needs seam tape. Other underlayment I have used has a flap of plastic to create the seam. The salesman failed to point that out to me. Also, the recycled fiber will come apart if you use a dull knife. I reccommend scissor or very sharp knife. November 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product After a recent flood here in Houston, we decided to replace most of the carpet in our home with Laminate. In the master bedrrom, we also decided to install two radiant heat pads (3' x 10') on each side of the bed. We ordered this underlayment due to it being the same thickness as the heat pads. When I continued laying laminate in another room, I purchased underlayment (at the same price) at our local HD that was not near the quality, sound absorbing or dense as this product. It was the best that the local store had . Grr... Now, I have ordered and received more of this underlayment for the remainder of the project. It absorbs more sound, feels firmer while adding a gread pad, and is also eisier to putdown and cut. This is the underlayment that YOU want in your home. Dale June 22, 2009
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not a fan Not nearly as good as the neoprene stuff at the same price, plus it's not as user friendly when you need to cut it. You could use the cheapest underlayment in the store and get better results. May 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Underlayment I just used this in conjunction with natural bamboo click lock flooring also obtained from The Home Depot. I must say it was easier than expected. The hardest part was scraping the glue from the slab prior to installation. Roll this padding out, duct tape together the seams, and go to it. Highly recommended. I installed 225sq' in a day, carpet removal, scraping, underlayment, and hardwood, and finished off the thresholds and 1/4 round the following day. August 3, 2009
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Highly Recommended I was installing some Timberclick from Floor and Decor, basically it is hardwood that you can float like engineered. Totally awesome! Anyway, I was installing over concrete and bought a thermal, moisture barrier underlayment that was to help prevent the flooring from getting cold. After installing a few rows, I walked across and it had that hollow click sound! I read about this underlayment and rushed to home depot and installed over 400 sq ft so far with the thermal layer and this acoustical underlayment. Complete difference, has more of a solid sound. Easy to use, little hard to cut, but not too bad. Worth the extra money, trust me, you be much happier if you just spend the few extra bucks and do it right the first time. October 6, 2014
