Product Overview

MS International California Gold Ledger Panel 6 in. x 24 in. Wall Tile is a Natural Stone Slate with a symbiosis of bold earthy tones. With a large selection of sizes and accessories to choose from, this tile can easily be laid in a pattern or single layout and is suitable for residential and commercial installations. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

Customer Questions & Answers

Can you use a standard wet saw for cutting these or is there a particular type of wet saw needed?

Asked by: Anonymous
I used my cheapie wet tile saw (it's a Skil). Worked just find with a diamond blade. I also have a handheld grinder and I bought a diamond blade for that too. There are some cuts you'll need to make for which a tile saw might be too big. So the smaller handheld is handy to have around.

In most pictures posted it looks like this doesn't need to be grouted? Almost like a ledge stone. Is that correct?

Would like to know if grout should be used on interior install for a border or back splash install. Also can this be installed inside a shower. Will it hold up to water , moisture etc. and in this case will it take grout?
Asked by: Studio
This is natural stone, unfinished surface. It will absorb water, soap or anything else you use in your shower. It will harbor mildew. It will be VERY DIFFICULT to clean. If you cook at all, you need to be able to wipe a backsplash clean, right? That's why they use the word "splash." Can't imagine it would perform well in a shower or as a backsplash. Unless you are comfortable with having to replace in in a year, I would not apply it in a shower or backsplash.

How do i Build 45 degree corners?

Asked by: Joe
For inside corners you can choose panels that don't have a big variation in thickness, then scribe a cut line onto the adjoining panel. It helps if you unpack all of your stone before you start and reserve the flatter ones for inside corner duty. For outside corners you can carefully choose similar color and size combinations and miter them. Any high spots can be knocked down with a chisel or diamond blade on a grinder.

Can this product be attached to a painted brick wall? What preparations are needed for the existing brick wall and what adhesive is recommended?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, however proper prep is required. 1st you need to properly clean the brick area with a pressure washer and scrub brush. After the area is clean and dry you will need to paint all the bricks with a cement binder like weld-crete. I believe Home Depot has products similar to this from sikaflex or rapid set. After the bonder dries you should be able to safely adhere your stone over the bricks with mortar. If you wanted to go one extra step and ensure your stone were getting great adhesion for a long lifetime product, I would float the bricks surface with 1/2 inch mortar after painting with the weld-crete, then apply my stone to my mortar surface. This stone is extremely easy to use and looks fantastic when it's installed. It fits together perfectly and once the job is completed you really have to look hard to see the seams. It was very easy to cut using a wet saw, but the stone turns to a messy sludge that clogs up the pump on the saw after a few cuts. I ended up putting the pump in a bucket of fresh water and letting the used water from the saw drain into a separate bucket. I had to dig through a lot of boxes with broken stone before finding enough (10 boxes) to do my back splash. I blame the forklift operator at Home Depot for that. I'm sure it wasn't broken when it left the factory.

This was my first DIY with stone, but this was more like tile, which I've only done once. The panels cut easily with my new RIGID tile saw (which is also nice). It took me a total of about 8 hours over a couple of days to complete. We absolutely love it.

Can't comment on installation as my contractor is doing that. I will say that the manufacturer of this stone is NOT on the ball. I ordered both corner and wall ledgers in this color/style. Wall ledger stone readily available in the store; corner pieces have to be ordered. Some arrived broken, plus I didn't order enough. Suddenly, it wasn't available on the HD website anymore. Tried to order direct from the manufacturer and FOUR WEEKS LATER, I finally have enough product to finish my smallish project. Frustrating.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lot of effort but nice results. I used this product to cover my new gas fireplace enclosure. I first built a frame then enclosed the fireplace with Durarock. The greatest challenge was cutting the panels with a wet saw...made quite a mess. There's a video out showing an individual cutting a similar product with a grinder...might try that next time. A lot of waste/broken panels. I wish I could have selected each panel individually. The finished product came out great. We're very happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Careful for outdoo use I used this on an outdoor wall in Arkansas (freezing and rain), plus the wall was curved. Project did not go real well. Some observations and suggestions. - Some of the panels are broken, usually a piece of slate has split. I used Titebond 3 glue with clamps to correct most of these, so far fixes are OK, probably stronger than original bond. Did not do this for real big breaks. The rock is fairly soft, don't drop the panels. - There are no instructions on the manufacturers website for installation, however there is a video (which I recommend) if you search the Internet for MSI Ledger Panel Installation (which I found after the fact). A competitor, Norstone, has good instructions for similar items. - The 'thinset' to use is an issue. I initially used Custom Building Products (CBP) Flexbond per recommendations of HD users. I also used it to set some pavers and noticed that it cracked after drying at some joints. Found out it is limited to 1/4" maximum installed thickness, which is really too thin for these panels. Switched to CBP Natural Stone and Travertine mortar which is for Large Format Tiles (LFT); this worked well, BUT both HD and L only carry this in WHITE which looks bad at squeeze through joints. Called around and found a store that had CBP gray Versabond LFT. Read the CBP data sheet and it looked OK and I used it. Later found a LFT recommendation page at CBP and Versabond LFT is NOT OK. Unlike regular Versabond, its not suitable for outdoor, freezing or vertical applications. CBP has a good local dealers page on their website, you will need to use this to get the correct mortar. Could also call CBP, and ask for advice, which I did not do. HD advice on this subject is questionable. - I 'buttered' the back of the panels before installing. I think this is important since the back side is not flat and some seams between the rocks are not glued. I also tamped down the panels fairly vigorously.

We used this tile on the exterior walls in the covered portion of our Florida lanai. It looks great, much nicer than a cultured material. We were careful with the boxes and did not have any broken tiles.
