Product Overview

MS International California Gold Ledger Panel 6 in. x 24 in. Wall Tile is a Natural Stone Slate with a symbiosis of bold earthy tones. With a large selection of sizes and accessories to choose from, this tile can easily be laid in a pattern or single layout and is suitable for residential and commercial installations. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

California Gold Ledger Panel 6 in. x 24 in. Natural Slate Wall Tile (4 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Careful for outdoo use I used this on an outdoor wall in Arkansas (freezing and rain), plus the wall was curved. Project did not go real well. Some observations and suggestions. - Some of the panels are broken, usually a piece of slate has split. I used Titebond 3 glue with clamps to correct most of these, so far fixes are OK, probably stronger than original bond. Did not do this for real big breaks. The rock is fairly soft, don't drop the panels. - There are no instructions on the manufacturers website for installation, however there is a video (which I recommend) if you search the Internet for MSI Ledger Panel Installation (which I found after the fact). A competitor, Norstone, has good instructions for similar items. - The 'thinset' to use is an issue. I initially used Custom Building Products (CBP) Flexbond per recommendations of HD users. I also used it to set some pavers and noticed that it cracked after drying at some joints. Found out it is limited to 1/4" maximum installed thickness, which is really too thin for these panels. Switched to CBP Natural Stone and Travertine mortar which is for Large Format Tiles (LFT); this worked well, BUT both HD and L only carry this in WHITE which looks bad at squeeze through joints. Called around and found a store that had CBP gray Versabond LFT. Read the CBP data sheet and it looked OK and I used it. Later found a LFT recommendation page at CBP and Versabond LFT is NOT OK. Unlike regular Versabond, its not suitable for outdoor, freezing or vertical applications. CBP has a good local dealers page on their website, you will need to use this to get the correct mortar. Could also call CBP, and ask for advice, which I did not do. HD advice on this subject is questionable. - I 'buttered' the back of the panels before installing. I think this is important since the back side is not flat and some seams between the rocks are not glued. I also tamped down the panels fairly vigorously.

We used it to replace the brick on the front of our house, and it looks great! All of the neighbors ask what we are using and where we got it from! It pieces together well, is consistently sized and has good color and balance. We LOVE it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Tile! This was my first DIY wall tile project and it was fun for the most part. Some things I learned: 1. HardieBacker Cement Board is recommend to install first on the wall studs because of the heaviness of the stone panels. I was hoping to originally get away with sticking them straight on the wall but after lots of research and advice I ended up installing cement board behind it for the long-term. Make sure to place fiberglass tape over the seams and mortar over the tape a couple times. 2. Definitely need a wet saw to cut through the stone. I used the SKIL 3540-02 which can be found on Amazon for $80. Cuts through it like butter. Word to the wise - wear clothes you don't mind ruining as the saw will spray mud all over you (Stone/sand + water = mud). Also, I made the mistake of first operating the saw on my patio which later caused me some couple of hours of cleaning. I wised up and placed it in the middle of my yard the second time where the mud ended up on my lawn instead of the patio. 3. Use the pre-mix mortar over the stuff you have to mix yourself. Much cleaner and easier to manage. Also, do up to 4 panels at a time and wait the next day to add more. This will help ensure it won't sag or fall off while drying. Good luck!

Can't comment on installation as my contractor is doing that. I will say that the manufacturer of this stone is NOT on the ball. I ordered both corner and wall ledgers in this color/style. Wall ledger stone readily available in the store; corner pieces have to be ordered. Some arrived broken, plus I didn't order enough. Suddenly, it wasn't available on the HD website anymore. Tried to order direct from the manufacturer and FOUR WEEKS LATER, I finally have enough product to finish my smallish project. Frustrating.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good value Low cost for ledger stone, but also lower quality than many other ledger stone panels. Many broken pieces (about 20%). The panels are relatively strong when sitting upright, but if laid flat they break easily. This is a problem for shipping and handling in the store, many of the boxes were laid on their side and resulted in broken panels. Stone thickness very irregular, including the back, so it takes a bit of extra time when installing. Once installed it looks good. Overall its good for what it costs.
