Product Overview

Add subtle sophistication to your decor with the MS International Castle 18 in. x 18 in. Honed-Filled Travertine Wall and Floor Tile. Featuring a rustic finish to present a personalized unique look for your home, these tiles are designed for various installation options. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer.

Customer Questions & Answers

I'm looking at the Castle travertine 18x18 tile. Is this ok to use in the shower?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, We used them in two showers, cut them in half and ran like subway tile in one shower, and ran vertically in the other. I did two coats of solvent based sealer (Pro-Solv 10 Sealer) in the entire shower and on the floors of the bathroom. Cleans very easy, don't use bleach based cleaners. I clean with dawn dish soap and water, cuts all the oils and the tile cleans beautifully.

How many tile are in a pallet of Castle travertine honed tile?

Asked by: Anonymous
No answer as there are 3 different answers each different. Eliminate the 1st answer as is for the 4 tile box. That leaves two different answers for the quantity in a case. Well HD which is it, 88 or 104 pieces per case?

My tile guy cut the pieces in half and ran them subway style in the shower, and cut smaller 4x4 pieces and did a mosaic pattern on the floor of the shower. I also bought travertine corner shelves for shampoo and soap. I put two coats of sealer on the shower walls and floor, and two on the bathroom floor, which we did in full size tiles. The color variations can be a bit extreme, but that makes for an interesting and natural look. High compliments on both bathrooms, highly recommend. We had one box out of almost 60 boxes that had broken tiles.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Don't hold up well Had them professionally installed about 6 years ago. Loved the look, and still look good in places we rarely walk but started breaking and crumbling in well-traveled spots almost immediately. Cannot afford to replace the whole floor so we are having it refinished and polished and replacing a few that really need it. Thing is, although they are not expensive, there are cheaper options that hold up better with less hassle, so I would consider wear and tear before putting them in a higher-traffic area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Travertine We purchased this travertine for our guest bathroom. Our installer did an excellent job and few tiles were unusable. The stone is level and secure. It looks beautiful!! We then decided to buy 1500 square feet more and have completed an office--it too looks just great! We are very pleased with this travertine and would recommend it. If you're going to tile a large area, buy all tile necessary plus 20% so you can choose how best to lay it out for a nice look. Remember, travertine is a natural stone and no one stone will look alike in pattern or color. If you like natural, earthy look, it's a great tile to purchase!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best bang for your buck! Just re did our bathroom, this tile gave us the most bang for our buck. I was really Leary at first because of the poor reviews, but my wife and I installed it within a couple of days and it turned out great! However the stone is thin and has a lot of voids in it. We took our time making our cuts and choosing our cut lines so that you don't cut through a lot of voids and cause breaking and then we buttered each tile as we laid them, filling in the voids. Overall we laid roughly 75 SF and only broke 3 pieces. I would recommend this product to other people that want great flooring for a reasonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tile is great when is well installed These tiles are beautiful and when are installed correctly will last very long time. If you're planning to install them yourself, do your research. Use a good quality thinset, medium bed to help with leveling and also to provide support to the tiles. Thinset must be applied to the floor and to the back of the tiles. If you plan to hire an installer, make sure he knows how to do the job. Good installers will charge over $7 per sq. ft. Don't forget to seal the floor after installation with a good quality sealer; it will protect the floor from stains and enhance the natural look of the stone. The reviewers that rated this product so poorly really don't have the knowledge needed to evaluate the product. We have this floor through most of our house and couldn't be happier, looks great and it's very easy to maintain, just make sure to sealed at least once a year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware!! had 1200 sq ft professionally installed 3 years ago. back buttered every piece. Tile is now falling apart. Numerous holes where filler is crumbling. For the past couple years i have been filling these holes with grout but it is now getting out of hand. Called HD and was told they have never heard of such a problem. They had MSI call me, the MSI rep said that is normal, real stone needs maintenance. I asked if it is normal to have a 2" diameter hole crumble out and they said yes, that can happen, just need to keep filling with grout. Guess i will have to pay to rip it up and replace with something else...
