Product Overview

Chiaro is a natural stone travertine that exhibits rustic, old-world charm. This 12 in. x 12 in. mesh-mounted mosaic is suitable for residential and commercial installations including kitchens and bathrooms, perfect for today's casual lifestyle. With a large selection of sizes and accessories to choose from, Chiaro can easily be laid in a pattern or single layout. NOTE: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

I did attempt to seal it with a high quality product, but it just sat on the surface so I wiped it off. The tile is not porous. More like porcelain with a smooth finish that looks llike Travertine, even though it says Travertine. It's totally different than the Travertine in my kitchen, which is definitely porous and intensified in color when the sealant was applied (which is what I wanted it to do). Sealing this tile did not change the look or color at all. The tile works perfectly for what I needed and coordinates with the expensive backsplash in my kitchen. Very happy with my purchase. Answer:
Not so much for the tile itself, but rather the fact that typical grouting of "tumbled stone" fills the holes in the tile surface, so definitely YES: sealer over the whole installation. Easily done & so worthwhile, helps keep clean, & prevent microbial activity.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. It is recommended that a professional installer be consulted for determining the suitability/maintainability of the item for this particular installation. In general application of a Natural Stone penetrating Sealer is recommended before and after installation for natural stone.

In the Product Description there is a statement about the C.O.F. required for ADA compliance but no where does it say this is ADA compliant or even what the C.O.F. is for this tile.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Looks good until you try to match tiles on the wall I would only recommend these if you lay these tile sections out on the floor of Home Depot and match the colors up before you take them home. These sheets have such a wide variation of color it is borderline ridiculous. See picture for an example of how bad they vary within the own box of 10 tile sheets. A lot of extra effort will be required to re-work the tiles so they blend well. The quality control where ever these are made is lacking. October 6, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great backsplash tile After reading the comments, I felt the need to post. While this tile did come off the meshing relatively easily, it was not hard to get it up on the wall before that happened. My husband and I used this for our DIY backsplash. We had never tiled before and we both agree that it came out great! September 16, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Who would make such a product?? Having made my first cuts at the wet saw I noticed these tiles starting to fall off the mesh backing. After a few minutes the UNBELIEVABLE became apparent: the "adhesive" was WATER SOLUBLE !!! Fortunately the bathroom was still masked off from the demolition phase and I remounted window fan for exhaust and cut the tiles freehand on the shower curb. Angle grinder in one hand vacuum in the other. These tiles are fine if you need 2 x 2 for an art project: place a 12 x 12 sheet in a bucket of water for a few minutes and voila 36 tiles! Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer beware... pick out at store, too much variation in color and quality. I purchased a couple samples of this tile, and based my backsplash installation on this. I purchased accent tile and had a custom mural made. When it came to purchase the entire amount I needed, I went back to the store (based other reviewers recommendations) and attempted to pick out the other 40 sq. ft. I would need. Unfortunately I could only find about a fourth of that amount that was even a close match the two I had purchased earlier. The variation in color and texture was really unacceptable... some of the tile was a buttery beige color and very porous (like the samples I took home), and it ranged from that to a whitish marble that wasn't porous at all, which would not take grout anywhere close to the others. I sat on the floor of the store and went through every piece they had and couldn't come up with anything even close to what I needed. Tile is a permanent option for decorating, and in an area that's very visible... you don't want to take any chances with poor quality. In the end I had to scrap this idea all together and go on a hunt for something else that matched the custom tile I had already ordered. I would not recommend this tile at all unless you go to the store and hand pick every piece. On another note, I found the exact tile at another home improvement store, and it suffered the same quality control issues. November 28, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Wrong sku # This product at Home Depot has the same sku number for two very different products. We had purchased a sample sheet in the store which was square cornered, smooth faced, and any voids had been filled and smoothed. We ordered on-line based on the sku number for the sample sheet but what we received was rough, had voids on tile faces, corners were rounded off and a good many were chipped. We did not install but returned the order to the store. August 28, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! I've been wanting to put up a backsplash and could never find the right design or product until I came across this product at Home Depot. It is beautiful! I couldn't imagine anything else on my wall. I sealed the tile before and after grouting as advised by the Home Dept associate and I have to say it works great. I've already gotten tomato sauce on it and it wiped right off. I couldn't be happier. March 27, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK only if you're lucky Bought a few from local store & loved it; usually available online only, so ordered more. Tiles were well-packed, but contents were unusable: tiles had big pockmarks everywhere & broken corners. Were these factory rejects? September 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great, colors vary but blend very well. Placed the order on line and was ready when I arrived at the store. Picked up and were on our way in minutes. March 27, 2013
