I have the Metro charcoal tile and it is stained from the grout sealer, is this normal? What can I do to fix this?

What does the manufacturer recommend I do to fix this?
Asked by: Wayne007
My installer used TileLab's Tile and Grout sealer on this and stained it. It was all smeared. He tried using the sealer as a solvent, Tile Lab's Sealer remover, alcohol, a Miracle Micro Scubbing compound, and baking soda in water and none if worked at all. We thought the tile was permanently ruined. I looked up the chemistry and it was a potassium silicate. A chemical supplier suggested 5% white vinegar and it worked. Saturate the tile with vinegar and wait 2-3 minutes. It will begin to break down the silicate. Scrub it hard with scotchbrite. Soak up the vineger with towels. You may have to repeat it on tough spots. Rinse the tiles 2x with clean water to remove the vinegar. Pay special attention to getting the vinegar out of the grout as it can break it down. Then get a grout sealer application bottle and apply new sealer to only the grout. This is a glazed porcelain tile, the surface doesn't need sealing.

How does the color and size of this tile compare to the Metro Charcoal version? They look very similar.

Asked by: Rachel
Charcoal is definitely has more brown tones. Wish they didn't call it charcoal, since I can't remember the last time I saw brown charcoal. Go with the black if you want "charcoal".

Does this tile have a matching bullnose?

Asked by: skb1981
Yes this tile does have a 3x24 matching bullnose tile, my local store didn't have it but I searched other stores and found it. You can also buy online.

Make sure you 'burn' the tile before laying them, to help prevent lifting. Easy to install, easy to clean. I also recommend using levellers (not sure of the brand name, but you can buy them in Home Depot. This helps your tiles remain level and evenly spaced.) We used Delorean Gray grout. **Burn tile: spread mortar on the floor as you would with any tile, but make sure that you spread mortar on the back of the tile then scrape off excess. Leaving mortar in the crevasses of the tile. Then lay the tile)

Quite a few broken tiles in our boxes, but to be expected since we had them shipped to us. Very pretty tile. Glad we went with the black, as it's more of a charcoal gray. Also, we chose Pewter grout, and wishing we went with a darker color. Dried a bit too light.

However, it is definitely a lot more grey than the brown it looks online - it was a happy surprise though! Turns out it looks the grey tone looks a lot better with the wall color than the brown would have.

I work for a property redeveloper and we use this tile in just about every house we do. The Metro Charcoal is my favorite, it has a really nice color to it. We either pair it with a grey grout or white. The Metro Gris is also a good option. We usually use it on the floor and do a subway tile on the walls if we are doing a bathroom. Almost always use white grout with the Metro Gris. I have yet to try the beige or cream version of this tile. I have read reviews that it doesn't do well on floors as far as stains go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Work With AND Easy to Clean No problem installing and cutting - and I love the larger size. Easiest tile install I've ever done. I have read a lot of reviews claiming that this tile isn't easy to clean. So, I waited several months before reviewing. I installed the lightest version of this in our most frequently visited bathroom. It has been used and abused! I have had ZERO problem cleaning it. It looks as good as it did when I installed it a little under 6 months ago. I even painted the bathroom afterwards - no problem cleaning up splatters. I can only surmise that a difference in lots might account for this??? Whatever the case, I am thrilled with this tile!

I put this tile in two entryways, my laundry room, basement and two bathrooms. Absolutely love it. Laid it without spacers and very thin grout lines; same gray color as tile. Gorgeous, cannot even count how many complements I've received from contractors to my 83 year old parents. Universally classy, great quality even with two crazy dogs. Just bought a second house and considering using the same tile, different color, but same rooms etc. A home run, home depot.

Althoufg the tile looks really nice and is affordable - there is a variation in color that is not consistent and shows up when the tile is laid. this lack of color control will be a disapointment in a large floor. But if you sort them in advance you could avoid some of that. I paid a tiler and they didn't sort out anything and it showed. The tiles shows dirt and water marks easily.

The dark colour makes the room seem larger, and the striations bring a retro look to your floor. There is some variation in this tile's thickness (very subtle) which keeps me from giving it a 5. I recommend sorting through each box to find any extra thick thick tiles, which I placed around the perimeter. Pattern match isn't a problem, so you can get a good yield from most boxes. The colour is throughout the tile, which means it'll mask the inevitable chips which occur with any floor tile. Looks fantastic with black grout.
