Product Overview

MS International Multi Classic 16 in. x 16 in. Slate Floor and Wall Tile features distinct shades and tones creating a varied pattern for a rustic appeal with a low sheen finish to complement any interior setting. The tile can be used for wall, floor or countertop tiling schemes and offers a skid-resistant design suitable for heavy-duty residential or commercial flooring in high-traffic areas, such as a hallways, shopping malls and commercial kitchen. Use matching trim tile or a combination of field tile for the design that best suits your space and preferences. NOTE: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

Customer Questions & Answers

Okay for outdoors?

We'd like to use this tile as a veneer over a concrete outdoor patio. Can this tile handle the outdoors? We live in Northern California with freezing temps maybe 2-3 times/year. No snow.

I am confused the picture. Is this representing (9) 16 x 16 tiles or (1) tile with 9 boxes. Multi-classic.

I want to be certain the picture is representing nine variations of each 16 x 16 tile in a package and not one tile with 9 smaller boxes on the single sheet of tile. Please let me know. Also the photo of this tile does not represent the tile that is in the home photo.

What do you need to install and cut this flooring?

Asked by: Lynn
Thank you for your question. In general a regular thinset, backerboard and installation tools can be used for Multi Classic 16 in. x 16 in. Gauged Slate Floor and Wall Tile. A wet saw is recommended to be used to cut the tile.

If you are not a professional, I would not recommend this stone. That said, our professional installer was even very frustrated with how much the tile varied in thickness. We had to go out and buy more tiles- three times as many tiles as we needed in order to get enough stones that were flat and then return the remainder. So many of them were also cracked- I am not sure how they are making any money on this product with how much we had to return because it wasn't usable- over 50%. Overall, it looks amazing but it was a pain. I'm pleased becasue we have a very high end look for a low cost, but it took an extra day on installation because the materials were hard to work with. I would only use this stone if you are prepared to buy tons extra and return and have it professionally done and sealed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff is gorgeous! Color and textures in these tiles are exceptional. In fact, you could put a frame on some of the tiles and hang them on a wall as art. It should be noted that the width, length and thickness do vary a bit. And, they're a bit brittle so count on some breakage but if you're going for an organic look with tons of character then this is the tile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful stone, great price These stone tiles were a last minute selection for a laundry room. I had low expectations for the room, but these tiles looked tremendous once installed and really add to the sense of quality for the room. Easily as nice as product 2-3X the price. No breakage problems and little waste. I'd use them again in a minute.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheap natural stone Nearly all tiles were very out-of-square, many had deep internal cracks, and the stone in all cases was so soft it could be permanently marked with fingernails. It is also very flaky in many cases. The skimpy packaging is inadequate to prevent damage. It is attractive however and will develop a wonderful metallic sheen under glassy types of sealers. Penetrating sealers will not achieve this attribute. The variety of colors was good and not too widely ranging. Thickness varies a great deal also. I would rate this material a D-plus grade. Not recommended for any wear surfaces. It can easily be ground and polished in place but much thickness will be lost. If your grout joints are really large (½"), the squareness issue could be avoided, but any narrower spacing will expose the poor manufacturing of nearly all units.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for- not for novices I have done a lot of tiling with all sorts of materials over the last 20 years. I would recommend going to the store to purchase this tile so that you can open the boxes and select each piece for consistency of thickness, to avoid broken ones, level bottoms, and for square cuts,. Even after doing this for a project of 300 square feet, I still had many tiles break with mild handling. I was able to return them. The tile are not only different thicknesses, individual tile are cut with protrusions so they are IMPOSSIBLE to lay flat without scraping the protrusion away. I had to take 2 tiles out after finishing because they still weren't flat after scraping and the subtle movement caused the grout to crack. They are very pretty and varied in color in beautiful ways. They are worth the $2.30 a square foot, but if you are a novice tile setter DO NOT PURCHASE this product no matter how appealing the price may be- they are difficult to set properly. I installed with a pewter sanded grout with 1/16-1/8 grout lines (there is no way to make them exact because they are not cut square. It looks rustic and very nice. Be sure to seal before grouting with any natural stone so that the grout comes off easier. I used a 1/4 inch mortar trowel and varied the base coat slightly to account for the difference in tile depth. The attached picture is a small area of the project. Hope this helps someone:)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The tile looks great in my entry way and in my laundry room Our entry way is looking very uptown with the slate tile. I had someone lay the tile, so it was very easy to install : )
