Product Overview

MS International Multi Classic 16 in. x 16 in. Slate Floor and Wall Tile features distinct shades and tones creating a varied pattern for a rustic appeal with a low sheen finish to complement any interior setting. The tile can be used for wall, floor or countertop tiling schemes and offers a skid-resistant design suitable for heavy-duty residential or commercial flooring in high-traffic areas, such as a hallways, shopping malls and commercial kitchen. Use matching trim tile or a combination of field tile for the design that best suits your space and preferences. NOTE: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use this for a fireplace hearth and wall heat shield?

Asked by: Zed
Yes. Given the irregular thickness of the product it will work better on a wall than a floor. I bought a bunch of this that they wouldn't take back because the boxes had been opened- that I couldn't use on a floor because of poor quality control. I ended up cutting it up and using it on fireplaces.

Is this one 12x12 tile or 9 4x4 tiles?

The description says that this is a 12x12 tile but the pictures looks like it is 9 seperate tiles.

Okay for outdoors?

We'd like to use this tile as a veneer over a concrete outdoor patio. Can this tile handle the outdoors? We live in Northern California with freezing temps maybe 2-3 times/year. No snow.
Asked by: Anonymous
no- very fragile and flakes easily

Multi Classic 16 in. x 16 in. Gauged Slate Floor and Wall Tile (8.9 sq. ft. / case) is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from pain in the rear Size is all over the place... 1/2 to a 1/4 thick and 11 3/4 to a little over 12 wide.. very easy to break, one two or more broke in each box so open and check. Plan on extra tiles an a lot of back buttering to get halfway even. Forget the spacers, tiles are not square. But when all done looks pretty good and hides dirt well, works well for entrance way.

This stuff is more like a flaky shale product. Broken pieces, poor sizing due to flaking when it was milled. thickness varies from 1/8" to 3/8". Tiles are long sided and out of square. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Don't buy this tile of the 8 boxes I opened at the store I found 15 tiles that were square. Not worth the extra effort of returning so many. Manager at apple valley mn store said that's just the way it is and the buyer should know to check them before installing them. I disagree with him, its a defective product and home depot will not correct it. great color not useable out of square 1 week does not meet my expectations

I got this to use for my Russian tortoise house, it helps to keep his claws and beak short. I was also able to use it in a painted turtles tank and in a couple of my bearded dragons houses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's worth the extra work This tile is the least expensive stone tile available at $1.25 / ft. so I really can't complain about the extra work required to set this stuff. Be prepared to fight with different thickness and sizes. Yes some do need to be squared. trimed and pulled off to get level, but the finished product is worth it if you take the time to work with the stone. I had a really hard time getting grout haze off even though I sealed with mirra seal & enhance first. After I cleaned it (several cycles) I resealed with mirra matte and finally got it right. Wish I had sealed with mirra matte first. Warning! this stuff has powerful vapors so maybe seal outside before setting. Vast improvement over the cheap firewall I had before

Rated 4 out of 5 by from slate tile Bought slate tile since wanted a quality looking entrance floor. Had to buy/look through many boxes too find enough good tiles, sizes differ, thickness's differ. Part of a slate tile floor is the differences. I used 511 sealer enhancer before I even started installing and glad I did. By sealing it before install I had an easier time removing mortar and grout. 511 does not have a noxious smell too it & you can get it at Menards. After install I did one more coat and the floor really popped. Install was difficult and time consuming. Used Natural Stone & Tile mortar and had to make sure it was thick to support tile. Differences in thickness's had me using less/more mortar as needed and it was well worth it. I had a unusual floor install since the main floor was bad and I had to rebuild it and use more mortar to compensate and could not use a floor trowel. Slate tiles are very labor intense and time consuming. Take your time and the end result will wow you.
