Product Overview

Multi Color is a natural stone slate that is formed in layers and split to expose vibrant colors and a unique texture. With a large selection of sizes and accessories to choose from, Multi Color can easily be laid in a pattern or single layout. This 4 in. x 4 in. tumbled slate floor and wall tile from MS International is suitable for residential and commercial installations, including kitchens and bathrooms. NOTE: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

Customer Questions & Answers

Do these slate tiles measure exactly 4" X 4"? I need slate tiles measuring 3-7/8" X 3-7/8".

These slate tiles look exactly like the ones i need to replace broken ones in a metal-grid table top which will accept tiles 3-7/8" square.

Pretty much 4x4

How are these slate tiles installed for a backsplash?

Asked by: Anonymous
Mastic then set by hand. Spacers won't be much use because they vary in size smaller and larger than 4 inch, and many are not square. You'll have to eyeball it and choose each tile carefully to keep any kind of consistent line going. Let dry, seal the tiles, grout, wipe thuroughly and remove any haze (this is tough because of the imperfections in the slate faces), seal everything again, finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tiles I used these to replace the old pinkish shiny tiles that were on the fireplace, these came with the house when I bought them. These multicolored slate tiles look awesome around the fireplace. The picture they have above does not do them justice. If you go look into the more views and see the ones with the different colors that will give you a better view of how they really look. After doing the fireplace, and loving it so much, I went around the house looking for other places i could put these tiles. Maybe the bigger ones in the bathroom floors. I love the look, they have changed the way the whole living room looks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beautiful... But order A LOT Did a 30 sq foot kitchen backsplash with these and it came out gorgeous. But, there were A LOT of problems with the slate. We knew slate could be finicky so we ordered 45 sq feet, 50% more than what we measured for. We almost didn't have enough to finish because of the condition of the tiles. First off, they came in damp deteriorating boxes that stank of mold and mildew. Some of the tiles have a greenish tint, but we weren't sure what was color and what might be mold. So we had to wash every tile with a bleach solution prior to installation. Many of the tiles were chipped and already broken. We were doing a diagonal layout so we tried to salvage as much of the broken tiles as we could with the small piece cuts, but almost 12 sq feet were unusable out of 45. Secondly, they say 4 inch, but they vary a lot. Some are 3.75, some are 4.25 , most aren't square, some are slanted, and depth varies. In other words forget the spacers, you have to set these by sight and juggle them around to keep any kind of lines going. Your grout lines will be odd sizes around each tile. Thirdly, they are fragile. Some shatter in the saw, some when setting them in place with barely any pressure, some break just taking them out of the boxes. It came out beautiful in the end, but it almost wasn't worth the headache. Installation took more than twice as long than it would have with normal backsplash products. Even the grout was tough, because wiping took forever with all the imperfections, nooks and crannies that it would be stuck in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Slate tiles, not for all applicatons. These tiles look great, with a wide variety of colors, with some really nice greens and golds in addition to the more usual red/blue/gray slate colors. Two main drawbacks: 1. While my cheap wet saw may have been at fault, these are hard to cut cleanly. The vibrations of the cutting tended to cause the slate to de-laminate and split into rough fragments. Even for simple cuts in half, I probably had to throw away as many tiles as I successfully cut. If your application requires a lot of cutting for any reason, be warned. 2. There was a relatively high rate of uneven, pitted, and otherwise unacceptable tiles. Probably as much as 20% if you count the tiles with rounded corners. For my application (tiling the exterior of a dome-style pizza oven) I needed a lot of partial tiles, and so I managed to use almost all of the flawed ones by cutting off the bad part and using the remainder somewhere that needed a half-tile or less. But for more normal applications, plan on buying extra. Also, as with many slates, there was a lot of variation in the thickness of the tiles. If you're doing a backsplash or similar and you don't mind a slightly rustic look, these are great, but I wouldn't envy you trying to make these into a smooth floor. So far the tiles seem durable even in the outdoor setting; I installed them in August, and I've seen no damage despite a couple of snows.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love slate floors I was unaware that the stone had curves corners and unfortunately we ran out of product, due to the contractor under estimating the amount we needed. We had to go to another tile store to purchase additional tiles. Home Depot does not stock them and we were in the middle of the project. The tiles we were able to purchase had straight corners. The contractor blended the grout around the second set so that they appeared to have rounded corners.
