Product Overview

Stylish and sophisticated with a textured finish, this Peacock Gauged Slate Tile will add some vibrancy to your design aesthetic. The 12 in. x 12 in. floor and wall tile from MS International has a range of peacock-like colors with a random variation in tone to help brighten your space. It performs amazingly as flooring in kitchens and bathrooms and can also be used to upgrade an accent wall, countertop, shower wall, fireplace facade or backsplash. This gauged slate tile is certified by the Marble Institute of America and is suitable for exterior applications in locales that do not experience sub-freezing temperatures. NOTE: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

I love the look of these, but prefer a smooth floor. I understand sealing it will smooth it out a bit, but I'm wondering if it would be possible and practical to sand it.

Te peacock pattern clearly states that the size is 12 x 12, but the multicolor option has the size listed as "other." I bought the multi-color tiles years ago, and they seem to measure 12 x 12. Are these tiles `12 x 12?

Answer:
Thank you for your question. Peacock 12 in. x 12 in. Gauged Slate Floor and Wall Tile has water absorption of more than 0.5% and is not recommended for water features. A regular thinset mortar and a non-sanded grout can be used for the tile.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 69 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Updating Fireplace Updated a fireplace from bronze and brick to this, black grout left to do. April 15, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Peacock tile poor Fragile. Great veritably in thickness. Some broken in box. Expensive. Returned to store. Go with multicolored slate in store not that much difference. Better quality October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Get extra The tile was fantastic. This was my first time using slate. It cut like a dream and looks great. Get extra though as a few tiles show up cracked and broken. Had to deal with the flaking of prices off the surface on a few tiles as well. Colors varied quite a bit, a few more pictures to show the color range would have helped. August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by most disappointing purchase ever these tiles look absolutely nothing like the pictures on line.. Most are merely a rust color.. no blues or greens or nothing!! As it turns out there were easily prettier ones in store.. Very depressing as this is the first step in my remodel and just want to cry everytime I look at my floor. Don't understand why they are called Peacock.. Makes sense when u look at the picture but in reality peacocks are NOT RUST COLORED!! If you want rust by all means order away.. If you want color seek elsewhere.. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful natural material. Perfect for basement floor where it is being installed. Be sure you seal the slate BEFORE you grout it---otherwise it is nearly impossible to wipe/clean the grout out of the surface of the individual slate squares. May 24, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by what a duck Over 30% of this tile should never have been boxed and sold as 'Premium' quality tile. I anticipated something of this nature, at $1.99 per square foot, so I bought plenty. I would recommend this product, with that caveat. April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Tiles! These tiles are absolutely gorgeous! I use them on the tops of feral cat shelters I put together from mostly discarded pieces of Styrofoam. I fasten them with silicone. They serve to both weigh down and decorate the shelters. I get many compliments on the pieces. Because they look pretty, people are more likely to put them on their property, so that more feral cats can keep warm in the winter. March 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding ! I chose this tile because I wanted a look in my guest bathroom that would leave a lasting impression. Natural stone is awesome. I just never thought I would love this tile as much as I do. The color variations in the tiles are beautiful. Very rich looking. March 27, 2013
