Product Overview

Make a rustic styling statement with Three Rivers Gold Pattern Gauged Tile. This slate floor and wall tile from MS International has a textured finish and earthy tones, and comes in multiple sizes to create a unique pattern across your commercial or residential space. Highly skid-resistant, it's an exceptional flooring choice and also performs splendidly as fireplace facade, backsplash, countertop, shower wall or accent surfacing. A low sheen and random variation in tone contribute to its natural appeal. NOTE: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

how will this product do with the occasional dog urine

I have an 8 yr old rescued dog who will have accidents when she is scared by loud noises fireworks etc.
Asked by: brassring
Thankfully, no experience with that, as yet. However, i would seal-the-heck out of that slate, with that thought in mind, should you decide to put it down! Seal the tile, the grout and keep it up to par, always, resealing as the manufacturer suggests, at least.

Could this be used as a backsplash and sealed after it is installed?

Asked by: Lakelady
I'd say it's make a beautiful backsplash -- as you say, with UBER-sealer, however! You want to be able to clean this, not be a slave. Over time, the uneven layers, may accumulate "gunk", however ...something to consider.

I want to lay this outside as a walkway. How do I prepare the ground for laying this tile? It's currently dirt.

Asked by: kristin
Howdy Kristin, This is almost not possible , you have 2 choices. add cement slab and use slate over it, or you can dig down around it, put in about 2" of sand for a base, then use pavers or bricks, and create the extension out of that. Slate is good heavy and strong when it has proper backing. You cant use it on dirt because soil moves, sinks, gets soggy and mushy, and allows air to get in and under. Slate tiles are easy to break stepping on it in dirt, you can never dig it down enough to stop its slopping around and becoming fragile. A better alternative would be to use Envirotile over paver base. Happy paving, Coach Dave
