We have the travertine down in our kitchen where we also have a side entrance so it's a pretty high traffic area. I vacuum it & use a steam cleaner-cleans up very well! Just be sure to seal it after grouting-our installer used a premium sealer and it seems to be living up to the "premium" label. We have had the floor in for 7 months-not one stain! Hope this helps.

Answer:
Hey there bellabuddy,
A natural and porous tile like Travertine will hold up just as well as the sealer used on it. Travertine can stain, particularly from acidic substances like lemon, juices, or other acid-based cleaner products that may be in your home.

I'm interested in the MS International 16x16 tumple Tuscany Classic tile (Model # TTCLASLT1616HF, Internet # 202589207, Store SKU # 234691) you have listed online. It appears to be sold by the crate, so before I make an order of that size, I'm hoping there's a way to get a sample tile (so I can be sure it matches my colors). Please advise...

There is an 18" X 18" tile in store that is nearly identical. I bought three crates and each was slightly different from the other two, but similar to the larger in-store tile, which is also a little better quality.

I can tell you from experience that even if you got a sample, the tile that you receive in the crate may not be the same. I ordered a total of three pallets and I could not have used them all together. They varied far too much.

Tuscany Classic 16 in. x 16 in. Wall and Floor Tile (150 pieces / 267 sq. ft. / pallet) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for the price We picked up one pallet at the local HomeDepot. The travertine is from Turkey, packaging is adequate, only 3 tiles had broken corners. 150 tiles, 16x16 1/4" thick. Our tile guy cut 100 of them into 5.25x16 (3 pcs) and covered the four walls (niche, bench and shelf) included in the bathroom. Floor used the same full size tile with a cross pattern. His comments: 1) Very fragile 2) highly Porous 3) the corners were squared but the thickness was inconsistent 4) good job on the quarry hole fill and quarry polish, but had to be cleaned 5) you can find good pieces to bullnose. Had about 10% attrition rate, some pieces just fell apart. 1/16 grout lines, used 'buttercream' color as a little as possible emphasis on the grout. This our 3rd travertine bathroom, first two had premium at 3x the cost. Once the stuff is on the walls is all looks good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality We purchased this online. When it arrived it had more fillings than any travertine I had ever seen. The fillings looked like white plaster, and did not blend in with the travertine. It took a long time to get delivered. When our tiller arrived he said I do good work and putting this travertine will make my work look bad. We tried to return it but homedepot wont pick it up or return our money until they pick it up. Already bought quality travertine and installed it and looks great. The quality is apparent between the tiles. Still have 5 pallets of home depot travertine taking up space in my garage and my money. This delayed our move, remodel and cost us more money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice for the price! Purchased 5 crates, have used about 2.5 so far. Very few broken tiles. We started a reject pile for the tiles that are just too dark or the pattern is too crazy. We might be able to use them in on other room. Possibly about 20 tiles so far that we rejected. We have done the install ourselves. It's not a simple task by any means. Most of the tiles have to be back buttered or they will crack later on. After grouting and sealing the room looks amazing! We love it! The picture im attaching is before sealing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent purchase! Love the tile! As with most people who are reading this review, I was on the fence about buying this tile without actually seeing it in person. So, if that is you-if you're wondering if you should buy it or not-I'd say "YES!!!". Please read the entire review first :) We ordered 6 pallets of tile to lay in the main living area of our house. The 6 pallets all came from the same lot and, for the most part, were in sequential order (Pallet #9 of lot XYZ, Pallet # 10 of XYZ, etc). With that being said, each pallet still has its own unique color. So, as with most recommendations, when we laid the tile, we pulled one tile from each pallet at a time, laid those 6 tiles then got 6 more tiles to lay. This kept the color variation from looking off. The tile looks AMAZING! I love the natural look of each tile and the character it brings to the room. Our tile came from Turkey. In researching, most travertine comes from either Turkey or China, with Turkey being the higher quality material. So, needless to say, I was very relieved with I saw it was made in Turkey. You MUST seal this tile before and after grouting. We used a 511 Impregnator Sealer (which we bought from Home Depot for $35/quart). The stone is very smooth on the top, so we tried grouting a closet before sealing to see how it would look. HUGE mistake! You MUST seal the tile before grouting and after. Sealing may seem like a lot of work, but it's really not. You wipe the sealer on, let it sit for 5 min then wipe off. It's so easy that I had my 10 year old son helping me seal. For the first sealing, 1 quart sealed about 500 sf. We took the advice of others and back buttered every tile before laying. While this is a bit time consuming, it worked out well with the 3 of us on the project. We had one person laying tile, one back buttering and the 3rd was the runner (grabbing 6 more tiles, mixing up mud, cutting, etc). We have been able to lay about 1200 sf in 6 days. As far as the quality of the tile, ours has been exceptional. We haven't had a broken tile yet, though we have had some minor chips on the corners, but nothing to complain about. The tiles are completely flat (vs. beveled on the edges) so there are very minimal scrap pieces. All in all, this tile has been easy to lay and looks exceptional! I would def recommend it to anyone! We used Sable Brown grout throughout and it looks really nice. Note: We ordered one extra pallet than what we calculated we'd need just in case some tiles were broken. It appears we'll have one possibly 2 pallets left over. Since we're not finished, I can't comment on the return process, though I will say that you'll need some sort of lifting aid if you plan on returning a pallet as each pallet weighs slightly over 1,600 lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value--beautiful floor!! We took a chance on 2 pallets of travertine because of the great low price and are very glad we did. Our order arrived in less than a week with delivery just outside the door making it easy for installation. We did hire someone to install it as we didn't feel confident enough to do it ourselves. Out of the 2 pallets, there were less than 10 tiles with corners chipped or broken off, but still usable as filler pieces. Now installed and sealed, the travertine is beautiful-true to color description. We are very satisfied!! Thanks Home Depot for a great deal!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Travertine at a great value Using this tile for our shower walls in two bathrooms. Tremendous value. 16" Travertine delivered for $2.75 a sq foot is an incredible price for a quality tile. Many tiles have more fill than I would like. buying it by the pallet makes it easier to select the better pieces where a whole tile is going in. The pieces with more fill can be used for the edges where the filled portions can be cut away as waste. Professional installation recommended. My tile guy needed a lot of specialized tools and a practiced hand to work with this stuff.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great look, but very poor quality! Never again. The only thing that I would ever use this tile for, is to frame it and use it as wall art. It's very beautiful and color variations are simply astonishing! But whoever cut that tile, was not familiar with any modern tools available on the market. Our tile saw was making much better cuts than any of the original cuts on the tile. If you like even floors, even enough for you to ride your office chair from the kitchen into the bedroom, pick a different tile, otherwise, your chair won't make it. We bought 12 pallets to install in our new house. We loved the color and the way it looked, even though it had 4 different colors in a pallet, a light beige, a light green, a dark green and brown. We opened 4 pallets to sort the tiles by color. Out of 4 pallets, we had at least a pallet of broken, chipped or defective tile. Some of the tile had unfilled spots, some had blade marks and were not sliced evenly, some were twice thicker than the rest, and some had filler stuck to them. When we started installing it, we noticed that every single piece was of a different thickness, shape and size. It wasn't a square, that's for sure! Even corners were not 90'. The thickness was variable even within the one piece itself. It was impossible to level it or even attempt to lay it straight. The cuts were crooked in every single direction and were very rough with some chips. After spending 6 hours trying to level 2 rows of tile, we gave up, ripped the tile off and decided to go with a different tile option.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed feelings, generally positive Bought 4 pallets of this to refloor our entire lower level including entry way, kitchen and family room. Great price! Efficient delivery within 4 days. Loved the 2 hr windows they gave me and not the typical 4-6 hr window. First pallet had exactly the right appearance with the golden tuscan hues we were seeking and as we saw on the display. Very happy with the way it looks in the entryway and dining area. Next two pallets almost seem like they have come from a completely different style and source. Much whiter, lighter. Unfortunately contractor had installed them by the time we saw those opened pallets. Now stuck with trying to figure out how to make it work. We have some borders which provide a bit of delineation between sections. Contractor says too many broken, chipped tiles. Working to use as many as possible for cuts. But hopefully HD will work something for us. Assuming HD works something for the large number of chipped/broken tiles, this was certainly a good deal. Disappointed in the big change between the pallets. Wish I had been able to stop the contractor and been able to request HD for a closer match replacement. Now searching for options to stain travertine.
