Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Clogs, clogs, & clogs again ... This product is a stinker! While mowing only a weeks worth of growth, the grass consistently clogs in the lower portion of the chute. I always mow dry grass, and I've tried different speeds & mow heights. Still, the bagger clogs. I even bought the "extreme" blades that MTD offers ... didn't help any. The only time the bagger does not clog is when I mow unhealthy portions of my lawn. Word from the wise ... don't by this bagger ... and since this is the only one that is offered for the various MTD models (mine is a TroyBilt), this probably means you should look at other brands if you desire to bag your grass. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by VERY POOR first impression I bought this because I have several spots in my yard where the grass grows thick, and it clumps up when I cut it. If i don't rake it, the clumps cause the grass under them to die. I was hoping that I could simply cut my yard and empty the collected clippings, instead of raking. The installation of this product was difficult - directions were very poor. They referred to parts in numbered bags, to simplify installation, but the bag numbers in the kit were different from those in the instructions -- and the parts were not grouped in the bags the same way as described in the instructions. Also the illustrations were not clear at all. It was necessary to use a screwdriver and hammer to force one bolt into place, because it didn't quite align properly (admittedly, that wasn't necessarily the fault of the bagger assembly -- possibly the mower alignment wasn't perfect). Overall, this product was very unwieldy to install. It requires at least 2 people to assemble and install this bagger (3 of us worked on this one). It would also help if the instructions provided a list of the tools (and sizes) needed for assembly. After the 3 of us finally got this assembled and installed, we tried it. Initially, it threw "some" grass into the far bag (little to none in the near bag), but then the tube quickly clogged at the point where it connects to the deck. We cleaned it manually, and noticed the grass was a little damp, so, figuring that was "our fault", we waited until the grass was completely dry before trying again. Unfortunately, even with dry grass, the tube continued to clog repeatedly. I suspect that there is a design flaw with this product, especially when reading that other buyers had the same problem (clogging). I will give it one more chance. I'll cut the grass first, and try using the bagger only as a pick-up device, as one or two reviewers suggested. If that fails, i will definitely return this unit to Home Depot. SO FAR, I'm not at all satisfied. August 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great I did have to drill one hole in my older MTD deck for the rubber strap, but it works great. July 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great purchase Bagger works great. I was worried about it picking up grass and leaves correctly because I read the other comments that people weren't happy with this product. This bagger works great, It will fill the driver side basket first then overflow into the other basket. Assembly wasn't bad, directions were clear. I was missing the hinge pin when I opened my box. I called MTD product support and they shipped me one out right away. The parts are heavy duty and I still retain the hitch for towing something. December 13, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by use carefully The only way that I've found to keep the left bag from clogging (it won't use the right bag at all) is to mow first, then driver over the lawn again to pick up the clippings. June 23, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This product does not work Tube that feeds the baskets chokes up and I don't know what else to say. The product did not perform as advertised. August 3, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by less than 1 star This unit would not blow grass into bags, it kept clogging up at bottom of chute where it first comes out of deck. In ten minutes of mowing in late afternoon dry and grass about 4 inches high it clogged up to the point that it stopped the blades in deck 7 times to the point where I had to shut it down and clean out chute. Broke a new mowing belt on 7 th time so I quit. The manufaturer tells you to make sure it is level but haven't figuired out how to level somthing that comes out of the deck and goes up to bags. Just took delivery on another one yesterday evening and haven't had time to install it yet going to give them another chance. Without bager my mower throws grass 8 to 10 feet out of chute on deck so that is not the problem. September 28, 2011
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by The bagger has a design flaw This bagger seems to have a design flaw that allows the chute to clog repeatedly, making it necessary to stop and unhook it to clean it out. For some reason, it also only wants to fill one bag, not both. We've found that it's much easier to mow the lawn without having it hooked up, then when done go back over it using the bagger. It picks the clippings up pretty well then, but still only fills the bag farthest from the chute. Sometimes it will partially fill the other bag before the chute plugs off. We have been very careful to make sure the grass is as dry as possible before we mow, or it plugs immediately. September 7, 2011
