When reading the reviews one stated they trimmed the surround and another stated it couldn't be trimmed. We bought an older home with an off sized width.

Answer:
hello Belle12,
You should have no problem using this surround. see installation instructions by clicking on the arrow beside the specification tab under the photo of the product.
The 2 side/corner sections are installed first and they have a 6" flange that protrudes towards the center of the back shower wall. Then the 50" wide back piece is installed over those side/corner piece.

Hello Belle12,
The the center panel that is only 50"wide, it over laps the two corn/side panel that are installed first. The corner/side panels have a flange that is 6" on each side to accommodate for small variance. Open up the installation instructions by selecting the specification arrow below the photo. You will see the instructions to the right.

Answer:
You may have bleed through issues and also if it isn't positioned right the first time forget it. If you use enough tubes of the right tub surround cement there isn't an issue. It takes a lot more than three tubes they give you. I used twelve or more. I have seen someone use hot glue in large dots and tubes of tub surround adhesive. The hot glue sets fast holds it in place while the caulking sets.

Answer:
The answer is yes and no. The back section is flat and but the edges are modified to fit over the side edges. If you run your finger from the side piece to the middle piece it will hit an edge of the back piece. I really is a quality surround and worth the money. It is solid but I used fourteen tubes of glue to do the install, not the three the give you with the surround.

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 31 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for an abnormal sized tub space My tub is 59.5" inches and with drywall it's about 58.5" which is impossible to fit a typical tub surround. No cutting necessary. The end pieces fit over the back wall piece perfectly. We sealed it with tub surround adhesive (it comes with adhesive and silicone) and it was a done deal. It's more durable than some of the other options Home Depot had and I was nervous about possibly having to trim it because it was so thick. However, like I said there wasn't any need to trim it at all. Excellent solution to a smaller space and Lowes had nothing like this in stock. Very satisfied. August 30, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed The adhesive included with the product did not adhere even after allowing the panels to dry for over 48 hours. The surface was prepared according to instructions and the panel was held against the wall with bracing while it was theoretically "drying" or curing. We ended up needing to purchase a different adhesive. This delayed our project's completion by many days. It definitely was not "easy up". September 13, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by well made product I chose this tub surround because of the off center window in the back wall of tub area. After reading all the reviews I called my local Home Depot and they had one in stock. I took the advice of one of the reviewers, bought the glue recommended by the store instead of what the manufacturer included. This was my first tub surround installation. The window cut out was so easy (i used an occillating saw) to do .Because of the thickness of the material I did"nt worry about spliting or cracking. I cannot comment on performence yet as this is a total remodel but it looks beautiful and I"m very happy with it. August 24, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Tub Surround We have installed a few different surrounds and this one is much better than the others. Some were very flimsy and this one is much more sturdy. Only has the one long shelf but much better quality. July 5, 2016
