Product Overview

Designed with the electrician in mind. The Original Smart Boxes are unmatched in versatility in new work locations where you cannot swing a hammer, or where final wall surfaces are uncertain, like kitchens and baths. They are unmatched in old or retrofit work applications because they are always mounted to a stud. Before Smart Box all other manufacturers hung their cut boxes on flimsy 3/8 or 1/2 sheet rock, or even worse lathe and plaster. Our Original Smart Boxes are unmatched in adjustability, as they are molded entirely of 1 piece with no moving parts to break or lose.

  • Available in 1, 2, 3 & 4-gang, and horizontal standard boxes
  • Step down feature allows for wire entrance in both top and bottom of box
  • Heavy duty 42 lb. mounting screws supplied
  • Mounts to wood or metal stud 25g
  • Adjustable depth
  • Extra thick PVC wall material creates stability and rigidity
  • Built in wire clamps
  • All 6/32 device holes are threaded

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smart Box I recently purchased a cabin with no electric. I had electric installed to the cabin and I'm doing all the inside work myself. These boxes work very well and I don't have any drywall work to do. I highly recomend this product. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The best PVC old work box there is We bought an older house a few months ago that needed a lot of electrical work, including installing a lot of outlets. I owned an older house previously, and absolutely hated most old work boxes. The always came loose, and you felt like they were going to come out the wall every time you removed a plug (and sometimes they did)! These are a dream. You cut the hole, insert the wiring, position it, and screw it in. That's it. Once it's in it's secure to the stud, and the PVC is very thick and sturdy. It's in. It's very secure when you plug things in and pull plug out. You'd have no idea it was an old work box. Probably sturdier than most new work PVC boxes. Better yet, need to remove it? Just unscrew it and you can remove it. Just screw it back in where it was when you're done. Try that with any new work box! I use these every where. They're a big more expensive than other old work boxes, but they won't come out, won't come lose, they'll last a lifetime I'm sure (at least as long as new work PVC boxes). I use this one if I need any depth, like a GFCI outlet. The other ones are probably fine if you just have a standard outlet and not a lot of other wiring in it. Home Depot is gracious enough to have free shipping for any amount if you send them to the store. I really wish they'd stock them in the stores though! July 15, 2015
