Customer Questions & Answers

bought his micro wave in 2008 now there is no power at all. is it worth calling a repair person.

Asked by: Anonymous
No, the service run will likely cost half or more the price of a new one. We are now in the throw away age with few exceptions and this is jot one of those exceptions.

Can anyone offer me any imput as to whether or not the location of this microwave's vents would damage the wooden cabinets above?

I am considering purchasing this particular microwave, but have just noticed that the vents appear to be located at the top of the unit whereas my present (dead) one has the vents at the bottom. Since my microwave is located directly under an all-wood cabinet, I am concerned that the location of this unit's vents would (over time) damage my beautiful cabinets.

I don't have this particular model, so I can't give you a fair review, BUT your question interested me because I have a "kenmore" which is very similar that finally died after barely three questionabke years...(of note... Sears will charge $249 JUST to come look at their broken products) So you have a VERY valid concern and I can't find ANY info on why that happens or what we can do about it. We had dual mode vents just like this model... Exhaust and Recirculation oh, and also a NO vent option too...And the vents face "up" toward the cabinet as well. We have had constant moisture in the micro and noticeably slight warmth and high humidity in the cabinets to the point of nearly ruining them. We even keep one of those disposable "humidity containers" inside the cabinet that fills up with water every couple of weeks! We are in Florida in a new-ish 2006 Condo on the beach on the 5th floor, with only one floor above us. The Maintenance man said he checked the microwave exhaust fan outside on the roof (aluminum duct in the cabinet IS attached to the micro correctly). The duct and exhaust fan seems to be intact and working fine like everyone else's (so far no one else in the building has this problem). Incredibly, even though our micro has not run for a month, (control panel is shot) the microwave actually has even MORE condensation in it right now...And pretty much all the time. We haven't even been using the stove much lately... Eating out often, so I'm going crazy trying to figure out where all this moisture is coming from. There is a lot of mildew inside the cabinets now that have finally discolored the maple to the point of no return, even with frequent bleach/water solution and oxycleaning. So I've asked everyone, no one knows if it's the microwave or the exhaust duct/fan that runs outside. I was blaming the microwave but now I can only assume there is some fault with the exhaust duct/fan which is attached correctly but not being used at all. The condensation has been there the whole time we've had the micro, we just tried to keep it clean and dry and ignore it, but I don't recall it happening with the previous microwave we had, which was original and made it 7 years. Whether we used fan/vent to exhaust or Recirc or nothing at all, it's constantly watery in there. Drips down the inside of micro door and needs to be mopped up with paper towels, finally caused rim of rust inside the micro door jamb. . And now, condensation even with ZERO use. I am assuming this will keep happening no matter what microwave we have. It's summer now, so maybe there is just a lot of heat and humidity somehow leaking in thru the exhaust on the roof?... Maybe cold air from the A/C in the kitchen is blowing on the warm cabinets and leaving condensation inside the cabinet AND the micro? Our kitchen itself remains pretty chill most of the time but tthe inside of the cabinet, which encloses the rooftop exhaust duct/fan, is always noticeably musty and damp inside. This is so weird, frustrating and I'm not sure what to do. Not having an under cabinet microwave there would look terrible. Plus I don't want to lose valuable space to a countertop microwave. So depending on how you are "set up" for this in your kitchen, and depending on where you live and many other factors, I'm not sure that anyone experiencing this problem can be guaranteed that it's ever even really the microwave itself at all. I think we will have to just try capping off the exhaust duct completely and get a replacement micro under the cabinet and hope that using the recirculate vent only will solve the problem. Sorry I am not much help, but I can't find any help on this either an hopefully someone else can shed light on it before I spend a few hundred bucks on an "experiment". I hope you find a satisfactory answer, but this can happen no matter what if you have exposure from "outside" coming IN your cabinets.

I purchased this on sale to replace my mother-in-law's broken Whirpool built-in microwave. The purchase itself was the hardest part; the first HD I went to, no one in the store could find either of the 2 that were said to be in stock. Eh, it happens. So I ordered online for pickup at the net nearest store - that went without a hitch. The install process was straightforward, the only hitch was the top mounting holes on this unit were about an inch forward of the holes in the previous unit; this made them extremely close to the front lip of the cabinet. Nothing insurmountable, but I was a bit surprised - most cabinets are a standard depth, after all. Seems to work very well for her.

I bought this because I was looking for the least expensive over the range microwave I could find. I needed it to fit a normal 30" wide space, have either an "add minute" or "add 30 seconds" button, have an exhaust fan, a light underneath, and have a control pad that someone with older eyes can see. This seems to be working out fine.

No one was in the kitchen. No one was cooking. Only day sleepers in the house. The wires behind the panel caught fire. The microwave melted onto the range below causing a damaged burner. Soot all over the cabinets and ceilings. This microwave was under 2 years old. Now I need a new microwave, new range and have to pay someone to clean up the black soot.

This microwave is replacing a much higher priced Sears model that was 15 yrs old. I am very pleased with its performance. I did read on previous reviews an issue people were having installing it - the bolts in the top of the microwave cross threading and preventing it from being secured / hung from the upper cabinet. I checked to be sure the screws threaded properly before installing and they did. However when I was installing, I ran into the same cross thread issue. After several tries, I resolved it by dousing the screws with WD40 before screwing the. In. Luck for me this worked. I'd gladly pay a couple of dollars more for better quality hardware to be installed at the factory, but this microwave as all of them are now made in China.. Nuff said. The microwave itself is working well and was great value.

The first microwave stopped working in less than a month and was returned to store. Got another one and it stopped working in less than 3 weeks. It does nothing. The outlet works fine and it was on a separate electric outlet. This is the second time it had to be removed and replaced. I don't recommended you purchase this brand.

My old microwave worked fine until it didn't work at all.....but there were issues I always had with it so I was actually glad when it finally broke down! One of the issues was that it beeped extremely loud and if that wasn't bad enough...four times! Every time the timer would go off, I'd want to throw a brick at it! Many times I'd cut it off before the timer went off - just to keep from hearing it. The day that it "passed on" however, I went into full panic mode. I use my microwave oven 70% of the time, my counter-top oven 20% of the time and my conventional oven the rest of the it was vital I have one! I immediately went to the internet, pulled up my local Home Depot website (Wake Forest, NC) and shopped till I found my old favorite brand from about 15 years ago - MAGIC CHEF! I needed white and it had to be the right size so it would fit into the over-the-range space! As soon as I saw it and checked the customer reviews, I paid for it and within the hour - was on my way to pick it up at Home Depot! When I got there they offered to put it in my car for me, since my husband was at work. That was great! Soon I was home with my brand-new microwave oven and very excited to get it installed and the old, "dead" one - out of here at last! After he came home from work, we removed the old one and installed the brand new one....then it was time to find out how this one worked. I was anxious to find out if it beeped 4 times loudly, or what, so I put some water in a microwave cup, popped it into the oven, set the timer for 30 seconds and held my breath! Much to my total delight and only beeped THREE TIMES and even better than that - IT BEEPED QUIETLY (or normally) so this made my day! Now when the timer is about to go off - I don't have to beat it to the punch by turning it off - I can just smile to myself and ignore it! WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE! So, I guess by now, you know that this is the BEST MICROWAVE oven I've ever had since my first one in 1984....but they were fairly new to kitchens back then and mine was much smaller. I truly can't imagine ANYONE not being thrilled with this oven and I opted to add $14 to the very low cost to get TWO YEAR warranty! I've had it for 3 weeks now and it's the best one ever!!! Talk about a win/win! :) DeltaLady1946 May, 2017

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy install I bought this to replace another magic chef microwave that was nine years old.The bracket was exactly the same and I installed it in less than ten minutes.I have had it for about a month and so far no problems. It is louder than the old one because the fan runs while in use but it doesn't bother me.As for how long it lasts we shall see. The old one lasted nine years but we don't use it heavily. For 128 dollars I will take my chances.

I remodeled my kitchen and installed the first one. Stop working completely 18 months later, installed a new one and it stopped working in about 15 months, reinstalled the third one on 8/22/2014 and it died about three weeks ago. Magic Chef customer service will not help at all. It is JUNK save your money.
