Controls keep "locking"

Just installed and have found the controls keep defaulting to the "locked" setting even after adjusting the lower section temperature. After a brief period the lock light comes on and stays on. Then the lower section doesn't change temperature and the light cannot be turned on/off. The manual seems to say that once you unlock the control panel it should stay that way until you manually lock it and locking the panel should not prevent the unit from cooling. Anyone else encounter this problem?.

What is the actual width with the door open?

Asked by: Dusty
The door pivots, but it looks to be about 1/2 inch beyond the width of the Beverage Cooler with the door at 90° open.

What is REALLY the minimum temp

The specs say 36, but the answers to questions say different things. One says 39 + or - 5 degrees. I need an ABSOLUTE minimum of 39 or less or ain't interested. Had wine coolers before that only go to the low 40s, no good.
Asked by: Larryo
Doesn't matter. After a couple of weeks the bottom portion will cool to room temperature.

I purchased this Magic Chef Beverage Cooler in July 2013 after reading all of the reviews on the Home Depot website at the time (it's now Jan 2017). I found a great deal at $499 when most were getting this unit for $599 back then. I took a chance with the purchase knowing that "3.5 stars" was all this baby got; the alternative back then was to drop $800-$1000 for a GE or other unit that was getting "4 stars. There were no undercounter units getting 4.5 stars back then unless you wanted to pay $2,000. After 3 and 1/2 years, I have not had a single problem with the unit. Every so often -- and I mean literally once a week, I might hear the unit run a teeny bit louder than normal. Usually, I ignore it and it goes away or I open/close the door and the sound goes away. It's not loud, anyway -- but I have to say I have a family of five so maybe it's drowned out from all of the normal family noise in our main living area. I do not regret my decision and I love this unit. It's GREAT for doubling as a second fridge for appetizers/drinks when guests come and I can't fit everything in the regular fridge. Also, the swap out glass shelves and wine racks are great for customizing the interior storage space. Finally, I have not had issues with the dual zone temp, the pretty, blue light, the child lock button, or any of the other controls.

It looks nice and fits well in our kitchen area. However, it does not keep a good temperature. We have had it for a few months now, and we first noticed a temperature rise when we re-loaded the sodas were are keeping on the bottom shelf. We passed this off with the amount of cans we loaded and how long we had the door opened. It has now happened several more times and will no longer get below 45 degrees. We have removed everything from it, pulled it out from its location under the counter, and made sure it was completely level and it still will not cool down to the level it is suppose too. This could be a one time fridge event, but we will not buy another one.

My experience with this Beverage Cooler: I loved the look and the price and bought it without reading any reviews. It worked like a dream for a couple of months and then the temperature in bottom section, where I kept beer and sodas, started going up and wouldn't keep things as cold as I wanted. I ended up unplugging the unit, waiting a few days, and plugging it back in. Apparently it had frozen up, and it worked fine again, for a couple of months and the same thing happened. This went on for about a year. It was a pain to pull out the unit, unplug, replug, clean up melted water, and push unit back into the cabinet (over hardwood floors I might add). I was about ready to haul it to the dump when I decided to try one more thing...I took out the glass shelf in the bottom section (like photo shows), moved it to the top section right over the temperature control, and put the wire shelves in bottom section. Now I keep sodas and beer in top and wine in the bottom and the unit works great and keeps the temperatures constant. PROBLEM SOLVED! If you are having the same problem, don't go by what picture shows...do the reverse.

Below are steps that should be taken to reduce or eliminate the chances of your flooring being damaged due to water leakage."

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Understand the product before you by You will read a lot of bad reviews for the product but you have to understand what you are getting in order to be happy with it. First and foremost it is a beverage cooler not a refrigerator. Three months after installing my unit, the lower section stopped cooling. Immediately, I thought all of the negative comments were accurate and I had made a mistake. I decided to look at the unit and do some investigation before trying to take advantage of the warranty or return it. I discovered the entire back off the lower section was a block of ice behind the panel. The unit was not defrosting. I discovered that due to a poor design and configuration of shelves I had chosen, that I had set the unit up for failure. I had the top zone set at 40 degrees and the lower zone at 38 degrees. I realized that those two factors caused the compressor to run too much and not allow it to defrost. I unplugged the unit for a day, let it completely defrost, dried the unit out and started from scratch. First, I took every thing out of the unit including the shelves and turned it on. Within two hours both zones were cooling correctly.( I set the top zone at 41 degrees and the lower zone at 40 degrees. I added the racks to the top zone which caused the temp to rise a couple of degrees but within 15 minutes it was back to the set temp. I added the racks to the lower zone and the temp went up about 6 degrees and after an hour had not come down at all. I discovered my mistake was using a glass shelf between the fan and the temp sensor. Once I replaced the glass shelf with a wire rack, the temp went down to the preset temp. I then place a glass shelf above both the fan and the temp sensor and the unit had no problem maintaining the correct temp. after the unit had run at temp for several hours, I loaded the top with wine and water bottles. Anytime you load warm bottles, the temp will rise. This is to be expected. after about three and a half hours, the temp returned to the preset temp. I then loaded the lower half with about 40 sodas and 20 water bottles. I took about 5 hours for the lower unit to return to temp. Now that I have the right shelf configuration and I don't try to run the unit at its lower temp, it works flawlessly. The compressor runs less than half of the time it previously ran. If you follow these simple recommendations, I believe you too can enjoy this cooler. As far as I can tell the next closet comparable model is more than twice the price of this unit so i was easier for me to find a configuration that worked than spend twice the money. Remember these steps 1. Bring the unit to temp completely empty. 2. Add your shelf configuration and make sure it stays at temp, putting a glass shelf between either fan and the temp sensor for that zone is going to impact performance 3. When initially loading, load one zone at a time 4. Refill the unit at night when the door ca remain closed 6 or more hours. These simple steps will make you a happy customer

Good features, I love the dual zones for wine and colder for bear and sodas. However, this Beverage Cooler stopped cooling the first time just days before the 1 year warranty was up. Luckily I caught it in time. But now, 6 months after the cooling module was replaced, it's going out again. If you buy this unit, keep your receipts safe where you can easily find them for a warranty claim.
