Customer Questions & Answers

Can wine and beverage cooler be used as a refrigerator?

We need something in our office to keep lunches and creamer cold. There are 3 of us. We were going to buy a compact refrigerator, but felt that the freezer was a waste of space. This unit is the same size, but has much more refrigeration space.

Sadly, their own technical service team addressed most of these questions to me today: I called in because I am trying to adjust the temp to 35 degrees (the lowest available temp setting) and it keeps holding at 39. The woman told me that these have a range temp of 5 degrees so "this is doing exactly as it is supposed to) was my answer I received. I was told that this unit should NOT be looked as a refrigerator, only a COOLER - read between the lines and you'll realize it won't make your drinks ice cold. Based on how quickly she answered this question, I am willing to bet many people have called into to support asking the same exact question. Off to find another model that will chill down to the temp I need

I need a height not to exceed 34" total. Can the feet be adjusted on this model

Asked by: Anonymous
I actually went into the store because I had the same question. My undercounted measurement is 341/4" and the feet to the top of the hinge is 34". Hope this helps. The spec sheet says 35 1/2" to the top of the hinge..........not. I measured it myself.

I plan to use this beverage center in a dining room. Is it very loud? Is there other product that better fits my needs?

Asked by: Anonymous
i bought this cooler a month ago. And it doesn't keep the temp where you set it at.. I set mine at 35 degrees and the cooler says it reading at 38 degrees. but i felt that the soda and beers didn't feel that cold, so we put in our own digital thermometer in, and it was reading 47 degrees. so you can't go by the thermometer in the cooler it is way off. so for everyone claiming it is reading at around 38 degrees, you should put your own thermometer in it. for me 400.00 is a lot of money so i took it back to home depot. I went to Lowes and bought the Frigidaire 4.6 Cu. Ft. Beverage cooler. it is a little smaller but it works great and keeps the right temp. before you buy this unit read the reviews. And then read the reviews for the Frigidaire. I would not buy this unit . its not to loud..

I have my Beverage cooler set to 35 degrees and it is in my basement which is set at 71 degrees. The cooler will never get below 38 degrees.

why will it not go to the set temp???
Asked by: Anonymous
First it's a beverage cooler. 38 will keep drinks nice and cold. Second the temp will fluctuate, mine gets down to 37 degrees and then the compressor shuts off and does not turn on again until hits 41 degrees or so. I put my own thermometer in there and the display reads 37 and so does my thermometer. I have it set at 35, so it's only off by 2 degrees and the drinks are cold which is what really matters.

We purchased two of these for a built in bar in our newly finished basement. I read all of the reviews prior to purchasing them. The initial impression is a sturdy, well constructed product. We had zero dings on the products (though they were our second set due to a HD issue completely unrelated to the products) and the installed easily. Switching the door hinge did not take long. Our primary concerns were noise and temperature based up the complaints in other reviews. The temperature gets to 38 or so and keeps a full beverage load cooled appropriately. They can make a decent amount of noise, but once they get to the appropriate temperature, they quiet down substantially. Let's be real, could you get a better, quieter undercounter fridge? Yes. Can you come close to this price for what you get? No. The next closest comparable product was $700.00. For the price, the value is exceptional.

It is awesome, size wise and price wise. However, the first one we received had been retaped and was not in working condition. The shelves had been untaped and there was no paperwork inside. This was quite a hardship as we had transported this refrigerator from Annapolis Home Depot to Ocean City. Had to repack it and return it to the Home Depot there. I wish they would check the products and not sell ones that have been opened, unwrapped and not functioning!!!

I installed it in a new basement remodel. I wish it could get colder. I set it to 35 degrees but it only cools to 38-39 degrees. For the price, it's going through be fine.

The unit never got below 47 degrees according to my digital thermometer. Magic Chef refunded the price of the unit, BUT NOT the sales tax, or the extended warranty that I bought from Home Depot. The service man that came out (dispatched by Magic Chef) said these are the poorest made units he works on 1-2 out of 10 work, the rest have leaks, and the Freon cannot stay at a level to maintain the correct temperature. He said they are NOT worth repairing?? I don't know why. I guess we will see if Home Depot refunds me the other $86.46. I will update

We received the cooler in box from our local Home Depot. We got it home and there was not a scratch or dent on it. We did purchase the extended warranty to be on the safe side. My husband installed it under the counter just a cabinet away from our refrigerator. It has really dressed up our kitchen. BEST OF ALL we have not had problem one with the temperature as some folks seem to have had. The temperature stays between 37 and 39 degrees... 38 degrees is the recommended temperature for the interior of any refrigerator. We are glad we bought this piece: great price and it works great!

Only complaints were the interior light must be switched on/off (no door switch), and no power on/off switch so I had to pull the unit out from under the counter to unplug it. Then 2 months after my 2 year extended warranty it quit working. Interior Freon leak which was not repairable. So it cost a $69 repair visit to learn I had to throw it away. Do not purchase this unit unless you add a long extended warranty. Also learned that the 5 year compressor warranty is useless because you would pay over $300 in parts and labor to replace the free compressor.

If you're purchasing this unit, then buy the extended warranty!!! I should've paid more attention to the low reviews for this throw-away model. Like MANY others, the cooler I purchased (at The Home Depot) stopped cooling one month after the one-year warranty expired. All solutions, including a $100, 10-minute service call from Magic Chef's assigned local service provider, pointed to a failure in the sealed system, which was not economically repairable. End result - $400+ expended, and a like-new storage unit for warm soda, beer, and wine that is ultimately destined for the recycle center.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the frustration First one I brought home was damaged pretty badly. Took it back and the second one failed to cool. The first two boxes were Magic Chef. I tried a third time and it came in a Vissani (however you spell it) and it was in perfect condition and worked great. I keep mine at 38 and it never goes over 39 until I completely fill it with warm drinks from the store. I have tested it and have been able to keep it at 34 but again, 38 is where I like it. Don't know how much it costs to operate as I never saw a real increase in the electric bill. Frustrating at first, but glad I got one working so well.
