I was honestly skeptical that this little thing could produce enough ice to keep up with our big family around the holidays but I was surprised and impressed with the amount of ice it produced an the portability. Put it anywhere, plug it in and add water and it just keeps turning out perfect cubes as long as you want it to. Can't wait to use it in the camper too!

I love this ice maker. It means I no longer have to run up stairs 3 or 4 times to get ice. It's sitting on my bar and makes enough to keep my ice bucket topped off. It is not for mass production and has no means of keeping it. I make it and pop it in the ice bucket. When I am not around it is turned off.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by DBob I love this thing!
I have a house full of room mates and we seriously needed this during the summer when our old refrigerator (with an ice maker) went on the fritz. We had a backup frig, but with no ice maker. This machine has been churning out plenty of ice daily for all of us! Great for parties and gatherings as well!
Easy to keep clean, and I only use filtered water in it to keep hard water down to a minimum.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by kjcgirl Love should have purchased years ago! Great product!
I let it sit for about 15 minutes wiped it clean inside and filled with water to line inside and ran first few baskets threw out and then started using. I use the small setting its perfect and I use my brita pitcher for great tasting purified ice. This has already saved me almost $50.00! It will pay for itself in less than 2 months! After running it I just unplug it, pull to the edge of table, or counter unplug the spout underneath and have a pitcher for the reservoir water and its a couple of seconds then wipe it dry with papertowels and put back until Im ready to use the next day or so. I always have a couple of bags of ice in my freezer and my cups always full! I love this I wish I knew how awesome it is mine works really fast it may only do 8-9 at a time but it fills the basket in less than a half hour for me, and works wonderful! Magic chef has been around along time and Im very happy with my purchase! I purchased a square trade warranty just for the extra 3 year coverage, for a very affordable price so Im covered and no worries. I recommend this product who likes to have ice in there drinks !

My wife likes "munchie ice" (Don't tell her, I do too). The kind that is easy to chew. This machine makes it in two sizes. The only difference between large and small is the thickness of the ice made before it dumps it and both sizes are very munchable. I bought this for that reason and because during the summer our ice maker in the frig cannot keep up with demand. Now in only two days I have two ice bens full and have filled 3 grocery bags with ice. Wow! Now I think everyone should know that this takes some dedication.
Here is how it works:
It puts some cold rods into a small trough of water and waits for ice to form on the rods. After a given time, it removes the water trough and heats the rods making the ice fall off. Then it scoops the fallen ice over and into a basket that is in front of the machine and above the water reservoir that is then used to refill the trough and make more ice. The ice is not preserved in the basket so It must be removed to your freezer for storage. If not it will gradually melt and water will fall into the reservoir which will then be recycled to make more ice. It has sensors that will cause the machine to stop making Ice when the basket is full and another that will tell you when the water reservoir needs refilling. So It will keep the basket full by recycling the water to replace melted ice. IT does not melt fast as I am sure that the unit gets pretty cold inside. Just not below freezing.
About once an hour you have to dump the bin. I dump it into a bag in the freezer. Since it is wet it will stick together. Just bang it a bit and it comes apart easily. So I put my machine on top of our short drink frig and put a pitcher of water next to it. Every time we go for a drink, we check the maker and dump ice and/or refill the water as necessary. It is really easy to do.
It makes about 3 baskets of ice on one filling of water. Basket holds apx. 1 LB of ice and takes about an hour to fill. Keep up with the pace and you will be surprised how much ice you have made in a day.
So if you don't want to spend a thousand+ bucks on a built in ice maker. And only need one to keep up with the summer demand and let it rest when winter comes. I highly recommend this unit. It seems well built, makes ice fast and wont break the bank. Oh...it is not totally quiet so you won't want it in the bedroom. ;-)
