Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kelly Awesome Little Machine
Can't say enough good things about this ice maker. Have had it for over a month now. Own a small restaurant and have needed to buy ice by the bag at great cost. Since the day I received it, this little wonder has been cranking out ice at an amazing rate. Now we need another freezer. It is compact, efficient and quiet (for an ice maker) I don't understand the problem that some have, all you need to do is follow the directions and use good water and soon you will have more great tasting ice than you know what to do with. At the rate is is going it will more than pay for itself in another couple of months. I highly recommend this machine for anyone that needs a lot of ice.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 This product works
I decided to try this unit after reading the online reviews and doing online research comparing the user reviews and ratings services. Its only been about a month or so of daily icemaking but it is chugging right along. I make several batches each day and freeze the cubes in gallon plastic storage bags. One or two solid whack on the 2" wooden cutting board separates the cubes for putting into refrigerator/freezer ice tray for serving. I had previously brought from a different manufacturer but the item was malfunctioning on arrival and refused to make ice cubes. Decided to try this unit - it is meeting or exceeding my expectations so far.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by oneandonlytuan Very usefull, since the fridge could not keep up with 5 people daily.
This has been a valued purchase and has proven itself useful in a variety of parties. I have people in my household and the fridge ice maker could not keep up with the demand. Especially with guests almost daily to boot. This standalone ice maker just keep chugging out ice cubes all day and night. We just need to keep it fed with water. Shure it does not keep the ice cold for long periods. but as I said we use ice constantly in my house so this is not a problem. If you need to keep the ice you have to remove it and place it in a freezer. Sometimes I do keep some zip lock bags full for use in a cooler, no need to buy ice for a trip out to the beach. Money saver.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by IceLover Pretty good for ice chewers
I read a lot of the other reviews before purchasing this ice maker. I'm an avid ice chewer, going through about a 10 pound bag a week. This ice maker has been great so far. It makes the ice really quickly and it's softly frozen. If you want harder ice, just stick it in the freezer. I read one review that said the ice tasted "plasticky". Clean the ice maker as directed, fill it with water and then add a little lemon to the first couple of batches. After that, you'll have perfect ice.

Love the machine and have used it all summer. Only thing I noticed is one of the water level probes is rusting and leaves some rust particles in the the water sump.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Billandfamily Some Details and Our Experience with the Ice Maker
A tray in the top back holds the water that will be frozen. Metal probes hang down in the tray of water and get very cold. The water freezes around the probes making the ice. When it's time, the tray turns over and the ice and remainig water dump into the collection basket at the front of the ice maker (where you can see thru the window on top). The basket has lots of small holes that allow the water to drain into the water storage area below the basket, leaving the ice in the basket. The ice maker draws water up into the back tray from the storage area below the basket, and so goes the process....
It makes three sizes of ice, based on how long the probes cool the water. It makes the ice quickly, as advertised. I did not notice an unusual taste to the ice - I did however discard the first batch of ice, but none since, even after not making ice for a few days. The ice has a great design - hollow in the middle (where the probes were) for maximum surface contact wiith the liquid you are trying to cool.
Because the ice is made in a water bath, when it is finished it is at 32 F. The ice is therefore "wet". The ice maker does not cool the basket that holds the ice, so you can't leave the ice there for very long or it will melt. You can, however, just let it melt, the water will drip thru the basket into the water storage area, and the ice will be remade.
We use the Magic Chef ice maker as a supplement to our freezer ice maker. When the ice is transferred to the freezer it sticks together (and to the other ice in the freezer) when the freezer further cools it. So we have to "ice pick" the ice to break it up.
If you've opened the freezer to fill your cup with ice but instead find only fragments, or if you've got a group coming over and the demand for ice will be greater than usual, this is the "toy" for you. We are pleased overall, and would recommend this product.

I love this thing! I let the first few batches of ice go back into the water so it cools the water prior to freezing making the ice even more dense and last longer in the tray. I have my own home bar where I have a good amount of friends come and drink and the machine keeps up with the demand it's great!
