Fading and discoloration damage are the downsides of the sunlight — actually, any visible light — that floods into the house. Most of that light comes into the house through the windows, and, even if they are low-E and energy efficient. They are designed with insulation in mind, to keep heat in, not to keep light out. Unless you live in a perpetually dark room, some damage is inevitable.
Our triple glazed insulated glass panels are not currently UV and solar heat rated, but, that damaging UV rays are present whether or not the sun is shining. Even on cloudy or rainy days, this silent destroyer is at work.
So what is a person to do? Protect the entry door with an adequate overhang avoiding direct rain and sun exposure.
Solar window film can reduce 50 to 87 percent of the sun’s glare, while allowing you to enjoy the outside views and can significantly reduce heat and save on energy bills without changing the look of existing windows or doors.
