Can this door be shortened easily? My home is made from cinder block and actual size of the door is 36" x 78".

It doesn't look like I can use the jam it comes with so I'm wonder what the actual size of the door is? If it is too tall and it's solid wood maybe it can be shortened easily. I saw some other reviews that complained about cracking and having warranty issues. If I cut this to fit do I void my warranty?
Asked by: DJH2112
I have had a custom version of this door for about 10 years now. It was under an alcove and a tree shaded it for the most part. At the present it does have a crack and needs to be restrained. That is the nature of real wood vs a metal door. It has given me many years of aesthetic pleasure and you will receive many compliments but it does involve some work keeping it beautiful.

No more than your door would allow, it's the same weather strip.

I love this door, it's solid as a rock, quite, and just looks good, I don't even have to paint the white outside trim, it looks professional just the way it is. now the Montara Single Cylinder Venetian Bronze Handleset with Juno Entry Knob Featuring SmartKey, wasn't as good as I expected the doors guys had some trouble installing it and re-installing it, but I'm sure after a little while of uses this door will be easier and more flexible to close up and lock, it's overall a good looking door handle and go's well with the door. I guys at Doorman LLC. were local to me, they were very professional, and did a very good job the Build-out of the front door looks GREAT, looks like it was made for my new home.

I absolutely love this door; however, I just discovered it leaks and, unfortunately, now I have damage to my brand new hardwood floors...the water is leaking through the speakeasy so I am unsure how to get it fixed. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone have a solution to this issue?

Quite a showpiece that received compliments from the moment it was unboxed. It's heavy (a good thing), solid and operates smoothly. The color is accurate (relative to the product photo). The distressing is integral to the appeal, though it comes off as a little staged, like pre-ripped jeans. The distressing is on the exterior only; the interior side has the color with no clavos and no axe marks. Several annoying things about the door turned up. Though the door is pre-drilled for a handle and deadbolt, the frame was drilled for only the handle latch and not the deadbolt, which I had to do myself. The sweep drags a lot. Obviously it has to drag a bit or it'd not be a sweep, but it's going to tear prematurely and given the heft of the door, replacing it will be quite a chore. The speakeasy is weatherstripped, but the weatherstripping is of insufficient thickness to prevent a draft. I shimmed the latch with some felt to make it close tighter, but the real fix will involve adding some thickness to the weatherstripping. The speakeasy grate could readily be unscrewed (just philips screws) and the small door bashed open. Finally, the warranty. If you can install the door on a side of your house that doesn't face west or south, has a significant overhang and if you have no plans to install a storm door to keep your beautiful door dry, then you have a limited warranty you can use. I now have no warranty because our door faces southwest. I'll also have no warranty because we're putting a storm door up. We also don't have a 2+ foot portico overhang, so we fail on all counts. I doubt the door will need any warranty service or replacement, but it's disappointing that the conditions are so restrictive. The finish seems nice; no sign of drips, smears or other issues. I applied a light coat of lemon oil-based polish to the exterior to help to shed some rain, and no finish came off on the towel. Installation was uneventful; it fit the opening with only minor shimming (and no trimming) needed. Despite the negs, I really like the door and would recommend it with those caveats.

We had it installed mid-December, we were the envy of our neighbors. And then the storms came and the door started to leak! This is a high quality exterior door, IT SHOULD NOT leak!! When we purchased the door, we were asked if we had an overhang, which we stated that we had a little, but, nothing else was mentioned. When the installer came out to measure the door, again, nothing was mentioned about where the door was located or if it was going to be exposed to the elements. So after the first storm and the leaking started, we contacted Home Depot, who I have to say have been really awesome through, this process, they unfortunately had to forward us to Maindoor. Maindoor has not been helpful, they had a serviceman come out to take a look at the door to tell us that the door isn't meant to be an exterior door?? what??? They gave us some sealer to cover the door, but, we could not try it out until the storms had passed. He also suggested covering the door with some plastic in the meantime. There was a break in the storm, we tried the sealer, the next storm came, the door is still leaking. We covered the door again with plastic and fastened it. Now our door has marks from the tape, it's leaking and it looks horrible. We are so unhappy with this door. Like I said, Home Depot, has been willing to help us out, it's the door manufacturer that has been unwilling. buyer beware!!!

These door's should be called Vampire doors, if they see sunlight they die and wither away. I am sure they would be fine if they saw no weather or sunlight, but most front doors do. Home Depot told us that our overhang was sufficient by over 1 foot but the doors finish was destroyed within two years.
