This is a good product for the price. The plastic upper saw parts are a concern if dropped. The 118 in long track is not priced competitively priced and the delivery charge is expensive compared to competitive sources with free shipping

This is a great saw to have in my tool trailer. Cuts clean and smooth. The soft start motor is a little slow and touchy - You have to keep a firm finger on the trigger or the motor shuts off. I wish the plunge depth was in inches since I have to site the depth when cutting material. I have never clamped the track - the tacky rubber material on the bottom keeps it right in place.

After using this saw I can say the cuts are very clean and the saw slides in the rail very easy. The saw dust is minimal if connected to a vacuum and the plunge system is easy to use. The saw's case is big enough to hold the clamps and the rail connectors.
I asked Home Depot to make sure the saw was packed correctly, I was told it would be, and it was not. The saw is loose in its box to rattle around and it broke the box interior. This is an issue for Home Depot to correct and not Makita. The cord should be 3 feet longer and the two rails do not connect smoothly. The instructions from Makita should be upgraded with a few pictures and larger print.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Buddy Very good saw
Works as expected. I did a lot of research on track saws and settled on this one based on its reviews in price. It is plenty strong to cut through any material I've tried including 6/4" thick white oak. It certainly will not replace my tablesaw but is a great option for breaking down sheet goods and larger cross cuts. Happy to have it in my workshop!

Several adjustments needed in order to get a decent cut. The bevel was not at exactly 0/90 degrees, causing a slight bevel on all my cuts. Also, the blade was a couple degrees out of parallel with the rail guide on the base causing quite a bit of burning on relatively thin maple stock I had.
After fixing both these issues the saw cuts beautifully. The saw left smooth edges and no chipping on maple veneered plywood and (with a blade change) was able to rip 8/4 maple stock.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jgville Precise cuts, simple to use.
Used with the track guide for making precise straight cuts. The produced cuts are as good as those made on my table saw.
The setting for cutting a shallow cut to reduce surface tear out worked well. Once the surface fibers were cut I made a full depth cut. The resulting cut was clean. The material was 1/4" plywood from Home Depot.
At this time I've only used the saw a few times.

I bought the saw so I would not have to buy a new table saw to cut down sheet goods for some DIY cabinets and beams in my ceiling. I tested it by first cutting some plywood for shelving for my basement. What a good cut and the track worked beautifully. This was my first time using a track saw, so I really had nothing to compare it to. However, when you think about the same blade doing 4000 + rpms through wood, it would not matter if it were a Festool, a Dewalt or Makita, the wood would give the same results. Just buy and pay for the features you want.

I worked on building several DIY kitchen islands and cabinets and this Makita system worked beautifully for cutting our plywood sheets down to precise measurements. I had to make a quick adjustment out of the box to fix a slight bevel. But once that was fixed, we were good. Honestly, I see very little difference between this and the other track saws I've used. Festool. Dewalt. Meh.. I really think that unless your a true woodworker who needs the "BEST" or "BETTER" brands, this Makita set is fine for anyone who does serious remodeling or serious DIY work. I honestly cant tell the difference in cuts or ease of use compared to the other brands. The only thing I noticed was that Festool's saw felt a little more solid, more well-built than this Makita. Well, I purchased the extra length of track as well to rip full sheets, and Ive been using this setup for a full year now.. And so far this track saw has been very durable, consistently cutting great for me. So it seems to be constructed good enough. The price is right for this system too. Cant beat it. In the end though, for those of you out there who need a track saw system, you really cant go wrong with any of the ones I've used (Festool. Dewalt. Makita). They will all do the job and make your life easier. This one happens to be the least expensive!
