No this needs to be done by a hammer drill. The drill needs the lock in type drills and for hard drilling like this, it would put too much of a load on this drill.

This drill does not have hammer action so it's not a good choice if you want to drill much through brick, cement, masonry. Maybe a few holes (for a picture hanger or something) it could do but you'll have to use masonry bits and press pretty hard/long and start with a smaller bit for a pilot whole and then enlarge with bigger bits for more ease.

I am using them extensively at my daughter's house. I was using the impact driving 2.5" screws. I don't have hours, minutes etc for only because the time varies with the load on the driver, plus I'm cutting wood and doing other things. I can tell you it wil not leave you "dirty". When starting a project, I start with 2 full batteries, by the time one is exhaused I have the 2nd fresh one to call on. The first battery goes to the charger and by the time I need a battery again, the first battery is ready.
I only change the battery once during a normal day, when I build my deck it was several changes.
For me, the screw gun side of the team works longer only because I use the Impact driver for the "heavy lifting" jobs.
The best thing about the Lithium-Ion battery is that it can stay charged for weeks at a time and not loose its charge. Not so much with Ni-Cd.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great drill/driver combo Drill set arrived in great condition, everything works fine as expected from a Makita product. Good balance and plenty of power. August 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kirk Rhoades This set came ready to use and does everything we hoped it would do. The batteries hold a charge for a weeks worth of work for us. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Satisfied With Purchase. :) I bought this set when I saw it on the daily deal and do not regret it. My ryobi drill now sits collecting dust. What I like most about this set is the compact size. It handles all the home projects well. No more redundancy when drilling and screwing (install drill bit...drill starter hole...remove drill bit...install screw bit...screw in screw...remove screw head and repeat again for every hole). Again, love love love the size and also the weight. I do appreciate my ryobi drill with clunky battery that is still going strong after 7 years...but its time to sell them on ebay as this set has quickly replaced them. September 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome little set! Compact and powerful, the Impact will fit in my back pocket. I use 18V Makitas as primary-use on jobsites, but these are great for quick, light tasks. Batteries are $50 each, so the $99 Xmas special on mine was a steal. I'd get another for the batteries alone, but don't want the additional tools. Have bought 3 sets as gifts. Hardcase will hold two small bit set cases. Excellent for the weekend warrior (should last forever in that capacity). Everyone that's held them has been impressed by the build/power/price point. Highly recommended. June 9, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by This case is a joke. The foam padding that comes in the case does not accommodate the items pictured. The case looks nice but it was not designed to put these drills in. July 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Screw driver great, metal box damaged Love the screw drivers but the metal box it came in was damaged. Sent email to home Depot and they have not responded. It's been about 3 weeks now. Not very good customer service but I love the product. May 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice reliable around the house drill They have a nice durable feel. Only knocked off a star because they both seem to kind of hesitate or spin intermittently/erratically on at low rpm. I bought them for assembly work because my <yellow brand> drills can be too heavy. Kind of defeats the purpose I bought them for but they are lighter weight and still feel solid and very well made. Wish Makita would replace the quick change bit holder on the impact driver with a keyed chuck so I can set it up to drill pilot holes while using the other drill and it's torque settings to drive the screws. Got the X-mas special and was happy enough to get another set for my sister. December 25, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Drill/Driver-Impact set I've had my Makita drill set for a few years now and still love them. They have always performed well for me; I know they are small and 12 Volt. Perfect for carrying up a ladder and/or on a roof. They're well formed rubberized pistol grip assure no burden to hold. With the trigger locked it makes a great impromptu flash light. One issue I do have with them is that often shortly after placing the battery on the charger, the charger goes into fault indicating a bad battery; I learned, however, cleaning the metal contacts with an alcohol wipe clears the problem up.
