Customer Questions & Answers

What's the difference between the 12 volt and 18 volt kit

Asked by: Alex
All the manufacturers are going to 18 volt. I have a great Ryobi 12 volt that I can no longer buy batteries for. They are going to quit making 12 volt batteries for these things, so If you want to throw this away when it needs new batteries then go for the 12 volt, if you want to keep it for a long time, go with 18 volt.

Does the kit come with 2batteries?

Asked by: Sophie
Yes, the set comes with 2 - 1.5 Amp/Hour batteries. These are a good compromise on a 12V Drill between capacity and weight. Larger 4 Amp/Hour batteries are available, but kind of overkill for most folks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Makita 12v Max cxt impact and drill I was seriously disappointed to say the least. I am a DeWalt guy but could not pass up the clearance on the two piece kit. I got it home, out of the box and as soon as I installed the battery I got a bad feeling. It is just much cheaper than anticipated. The overall fit and finish along with feel compared to my DeWalt 12v Max kit was like a tool vs you. The chuck speed switch felt like it was going to break each time you selected a speed. Do not buy it unless you plan on using it once a year. I returned them the next day. Spend the extra on a DeWalt or Milwaukee kit.

Every household should have something similar to this on standby for any work around the house. I have an 18 volt set and must admit that the step down to a 12 volt DOES make a difference. Although much lighter and easier to hold/operate, you won't get the power necessary to drill or drive some projects. Example: I drove a two inch screw into a 1/2 inch plywood then into a stud. This drill really worked to get it done and did not have the power to truly countersink the screw. With that minor set-back; I really like this set. It was well worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great set for the money I own an assembly business and used these to assemble 1000's of bikes, grills, and furniture. I bought 6 sets of these 9 months ago with no issues yet. I use them in my business the way they were intended... light duty and not to a point of overheating. Unlike the brands with the battery in the handle, these are well balanced and stand upright. Moreover, the brands with the battery in the handle only fit a large hand and feel like a top heavy small sledge hammer that puts a great deal of stress on your wrists, hands, and forearms as you try to maintain the position, grip, and balance of the tool. This top heavy position, grip, and balance issue is not at all good for long term tool use. The These are light duty, economical, and to be used accordingly. It would be nice to see brushless models with battery level indicators for users info and to compete with other brands. I have purchased and used 12V Bosch, Milwaukee, Dewalt, Hitachi, and Rigid, but Makita is preferred for the above reasons.
