Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HomeGuy The Makita LS1216L Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw is fantastic
I recently added the Makita LS1216L 12-Inch Dual Sliding Compound Miter Saw to my collection of great tools. Three years ago I bought the LS1016 and I soon stopped using my radial arm saw. A month ago, I decided to sell my radial arm saw and get the LS1216L. With two Dual Sliding Compound Miter Saw's I am extremely efficient. I am a home owner doing a home renovation project including crown molding on built-in cabinets and the door and window trim. With the 2 I can set each Compound Miter Saw to the cut I need and get the job done at a fraction of the time. The Makita LS1216L and LS1016L are both very easy to use and accurate.

Easy to use and well built this saw arrived and was accurate right out of the box. Its bulky for a traveling saw but it is a 12" slide so what can you say! Otherwise the laser having the ability to switch from one side of the blade to the other is a great feature just wish the know was a wing nut or was easier to turn with the bare hand as it can be difficult to loosen to change sides. Otherwise love the saw!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Nice Saw
I would definitely order again however in the future I will have heavy orders like this shipped to store rather than my home. Package arrived damaged while I was at work. The saw had obviously been dropped many times by the UPS impact testing department. The box was falling apart and the saw was falling out with the slides unlocked. Other than some minor cosmetic damage and slight adjustment it was however good to go. The adjustment was easy and the laser was dead on. This is apparently a very robust saw and if the testing it received in shipment is any indicator should last forever since it will never see that kind of abuse again.

I rarely write reviews but I had such a hard time choosing a new saw I thought I'd help in sharing my experience.
The only saw I wasn't able to compare this to in person was the new Milwaukee. I even looked at the Kapex which costs twice as much and the biggest issue I had with that saw was the fact that you can't lower the blade without turning it on first. Not to mention, you would be paying an awful lot of money for an awful lot of plastic. But this isn't a review for the Kapex... nor for the Dewalt, Bosche, or Hitachi which this saw runs laps around. The Makita is solidly built and has little flex. The dual slide is convenient especially since you can lock the slides independently for when you need just a little more length of cut. The laser is handy but not a necessity. The clamp mounts are also handy but I've never come across really ever needing them. The soft start is great and even the stock blade is pretty good for a stock blade. My only gripe is that it took quite a bit of set up to get it square and all the presets correct. However, adjustments are easy and once set up, have proven to be repeatable. Blade changing is also fairly painless as I regularly switch between needing to cut pine with the stock blade and cut hardwoods with a nicer (Freud) blade. Dust collection is not the best but usually isn't on Sliders. And in my opinion, it isn't worth to sacrifice on overall saw quality just to so you can have a clean area when you are done working, that is what the shop vac is for. This is a heavy saw, not as portable as a regular miter saw but there are mobile bases readily available to solve this problem.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by John Saw worked great after minor alignment adjustments
My Makita dual slide saw has worked great so far. I've been using it to cross-cut oak for two Morris style chairs I'm building and with it's laser has made the cuts very easy to line up. One of the saw fences was slightly damaged in shipping which I reported to Home Depot and they contacted Makita which provided a new replacement fence part by mail within two weeks. Excellant service by both companies. Overall I'm very happy with this saws power and ability to cut multiple angles quickly. The only complaint would be with the provided manual which I found to be small and contained way to much material on safety instructions rather then concentrating on saw operation.

I just have to reply to the previous comment complaining about the alignment of the saw. I own a Makita and a Ridgid,,,,and many other power tools. Every miter saw should be checked and adjusted once you unpack it,,,,since the saw can get knocked around during shipping. In fact almost all quality tools need to be checked and adjusted. If there is a defect,,,,I am sure Makita will stand behind their product. And by the way,,,,adjusting the trueness is a very straightforward procedure described in detail in the owners manual. Even after unpacking a miter saw,,,one needs to occasionally check the saw for the correct angles because transporting from work site to work site can jar the saw.

I recently moved and could not take many of my old tools with me. Once settled I decided on the Makita 12" dual slide compound miter saw as my new miter saw replacement. WHAT A GREAT CHOICE!
I took advantage of Home Depot's free home delivery. The saw arrived on the original promised date.
Right out of the box you could tell the saw was quality and that Makita takes pride in their product. The saw was packed tightly in the box with special cut cardboard supports, not packing peanuts or air pillows.
After installing a quality 60 tooth blade, and checking for square, adjustment necessary was to the table pointer. The saw was square, but the pointer was half a degree off, no big deal. The only other adjustment necessary was to set the laser, and I was ready to cut.
This saw is easy to use, accurate and powerful. My only complaint is with the instruction booklet; some of the instructions could be easier to understand, and the diagrams are far too small to be of much benefit in locating adjusting points.
All in all, I would highly recommend this saw if you are in the market for a sliding compound miter.

I first purchased a DeWalt saw and upon first checking for square I realized that the fence is out of line with its self. Meaning that a square put on the back will rock. No way to adjust! So I purchased the Makita and it is perfect. Very well made and completely adjustable in every way contrary to the DeWalt. Makita = Professional / DeWalt = low end homeowner use!
