On my 'older' model (at least 7 - 8 years old, it is located as a pull-out lock, if we are talking the same thing. Pull out, twist, release, move saw head / blade to angle desired, twist pull-out lock to up position, release to lock.

Answer:
it has 2 pairs of dual rails, 4 in total. Also, it uses 6 linear ball bearings on the rails. Very smooth and long lasting. Most other saws just have the one pair of rails, and only use a single ball bearing and a bushing

How do you adjust the bevel angle out of the box? Followed the instruction but it won't move. Is there another lock besides the lever in the rear?

Answer:
Loosen the rear lever and unlock the stop lever on the right side. To adjust the bevel to the right, tilt the saw slightly to the left then push the button on the left side of the housing and the saw will tilt to the right.

Answer:
It will tilt right by releasing the locking handle in the back, in order to tilt left there is another locking button. The locking button is referenced in the manual but it is a little hard to find the first time. Bottom line it will tilt in both directions for bevel cuts you just have to find the right button.

The upper saw should rotate/bevel freely to the left after loosening the V shaped lock at the rear of the saw. Don't forget the small rocker switch which stops the bevel at 22.5 degrees if you want to bevel 45. To rotate the saw to the right, first rotate it to the left until you can press the round black button on the left side just a couple of inches from the back. Now the saw should bevel all the way Read More

Answer:
The table height is 4 1/2", so I imagine you'd want to make a "pocket" 4 1/2" deep so the saw height matches the bench.

Answer:
You need a minimum of 29.5 (say 30) inches to set the saw on a bench up against the wall with the sawdust bag installed with the saw set to cut at . The miter saw angle handle sticks out another 8 inches for a total of 38 the wall. It is easy to swing the handle to 45 degrees so it won't stick out as much for storage.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 54 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quality Saw The saw was easy to put together, and the manual was clearly written. The fence was slightly out of square with the blade, but it was easily adjusted. The soft start feature is great, much better than my old skil chop saw. I wish the fence had a scale on it, but I purchased one and will put on it. Overall the quality is good which is expected of Makita. It feels slightly under-powered at times though. I put a thin kerf freud blade in it that seemed to help a little. It has an adjustable zero clearance insert which is nice. You will not be disappointed in this saw. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great saw I bought this saw to build myself a workbench but also as a solid investment in a good tool for future use. I ordered online and had the saw shipped to my local store, everything went very smoothly. The saw was very easy to set up and even easier to use. I think I was up and running in about 10-15 minutes. The laser level is a huge plus. Plenty of power, all of my cuts were nice and square. The dual slide is excellent. I definitely recommend this saw July 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Review of a new Makita Model LS1016 dual slide compound miter saw The saw works great and has many more options than my previous saw. So far I love it I have only done (1) project but I can not find any issues with this product. Very accurate, quick and cuts through even hard wood like butter. February 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Haven't used much. I haven't had a chance to use the saw much yet but can say the following: Fine tuning the miter, bevel, stops and such took over two hours. It took so long because the manual is so horrible. The rotating table is 0.022 below the table top and probably sags due to the weight of the saw. The lower slide glides really smooth while you can feel the ball bearings when sliding the upper slide, not bad though. Like most saws, dust collection is poor. Fit and finish is very nice and seems to be well built. So far, I like it. Will try to update this (if I can) after I have used it more and can see how accurate it is. May 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Makita Compound Miter Saw w/ Laser Great saw! Great value! Great ergonomics! Soft start. Very good laser. Not as good on dust collection. How long til the miter saw folks provide an add-on dust collector for their saws? June 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Makita 10" Slider I purchased this miter saw based on a W*** Magazine review and the price finally came down a little. Free shipping was also a plus. I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet (we're finishing up a kitchen rebuild) but I did take it out of the box. Looks great and I was relieved to find that my shop vacuum hose fit in the dust chute. The saw arrived a day earlier than promised. However, this was VERY disappointing! Why, you ask? Well, I like to track my shipments just to see where they've been. This one set in a facility located only 2 hours from us for SIX (6) DAYS! March 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth the price. The soft start-up is nice. Out of the box, it was easy to set up and within just a few minutes was making square cuts. The blade it comes with does a nice job but I will eventually get a different one for trim work. The lazer is true and looks easy to adjust if you need to. I like the dual rail slide. Just finished making a pair of night stands. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice tool. Love the soft-start feature and the quite run speed. March 29, 2016
