On my 'older' model (at least 7 - 8 years old, it is located as a pull-out lock, if we are talking the same thing. Pull out, twist, release, move saw head / blade to angle desired, twist pull-out lock to up position, release to lock.

Answer:
it has 2 pairs of dual rails, 4 in total. Also, it uses 6 linear ball bearings on the rails. Very smooth and long lasting. Most other saws just have the one pair of rails, and only use a single ball bearing and a bushing

Answer:
Loosen the rear lever and unlock the stop lever on the right side. To adjust the bevel to the right, tilt the saw slightly to the left then push the button on the left side of the housing and the saw will tilt to the right.

Answer:
It will tilt right by releasing the locking handle in the back, in order to tilt left there is another locking button. The locking button is referenced in the manual but it is a little hard to find the first time. Bottom line it will tilt in both directions for bevel cuts you just have to find the right button.

The table height is 4 1/2", so I imagine you'd want to make a "pocket" 4 1/2" deep so the saw height matches the bench.

Answer:
You need a minimum of 29.5 (say 30) inches to set the saw on a bench up against the wall with the sawdust bag installed with the saw set to cut at . The miter saw angle handle sticks out another 8 inches for a total of 38 the wall. It is easy to swing the handle to 45 degrees so it won't stick out as much for storage.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 62 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Could not keep it square While I liked almost everything about this saw, the one thing it couldn't do was remain square. I would adjust it and the next day it would be out again, it would constantly be 1/32 to 1/16 out in 5 1/2" 1x material. Other than that, I liked the trigger, the Dual slide, the weight and power. and the cut was really clean, in fact it was the cleanest cut I've seen next to the Festool Kapex (which is 3x the cost), fix the fence and I'll but it again.. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by The Grand Complication Going from my 40 year old 10" Makita electric miter saw to this, was quite a shock. But in a good way. Dual slides, and full tilt side to side make the new saw extremely useful. It took some adjustments and a little tweaking to get 45 degree and 90 degree stops to be accurate, but once that was done the saw was a pleasure to use. The blade in the box made very clean miter cuts on painted 4 1/2" baseboard. The larger size will take some getting used to, but given the accuracy and versatility of the saw, the size will soon become a non issue. Very glad I made this purchase. September 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quality Saw The saw was easy to put together, and the manual was clearly written. The fence was slightly out of square with the blade, but it was easily adjusted. The soft start feature is great, much better than my old skil chop saw. I wish the fence had a scale on it, but I purchased one and will put on it. Overall the quality is good which is expected of Makita. It feels slightly under-powered at times though. I put a thin kerf freud blade in it that seemed to help a little. It has an adjustable zero clearance insert which is nice. You will not be disappointed in this saw. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great quality miter saw I purchased this saw as an upgrade from a lower end saw that suited me for many years. I am a prior professional finish trim carpenter and have owened a Makita chop saw in the past. I decided to go back to the Makita brand since I felt my first Makita was a quality product. After lots of research and reviews on this saw (even with many noting it was not accurate out of the box, which many saws aren't perfect out of the box) I decided to purchase it. I chose this particular saw for a few reasons: Brand, blade size, double bevel, direct drive motor, and adjustability. Out of the box impressions were high. This is a stout, prescision built saw. The table, fence, slides, handles, and clamps are all excellent. They operate smoothly and precisely every time. The two section slide is a bit odd to me but it seems to make the saw a little more compact and do not hinder blade travel at all. Everything on this saw feels strong and very well built. The included clamp operates well and is very easy to adjust quickly. The included blade wrench has a clip on the base so it will always stay with the saw and not get lost. The presets for cutting crown on the bevel gauge work well however it seems very tight to disengauge it but has not posed any problem. I checked the saw fence and blade with the included square to check for accuracy. Everything seemed accurate from 90 to 45 degrees miter to 45 degrees bevel. Right away I mounted this saw to my mobile saw stand and did not have any issues with the mounting holes lining up or fitment. I used this saw this weekend to build a small shelf for the wife. It was my first real use with the saw. I made many angled cuts including crown moulding as well as many 90 degree cuts. After making several cuts I did notice that the fence is off a tiny bit when cutting 90 degrees. Nobody but myself would probably notice this. I may try to adjust this but since it is such a very very small degree of error I might just leave it alone for fear of making it worse. The included blade cuts well on both trim and raw material. I would say it's a good all around blade but I may switch to a more fine blade for extra clean cuts later on. I liked the size of the miter table as it was plenty wide enough to support wider boards or material. Everyone complains about dust collection. It's going to happen no matter what saw you use and I can't say this saw was any better or worse at it. I did have a larger amount of dust in the bag when finishing than I expected though. After completeing the project I have come to these pros and cons: Pros: Quality. Everything feels solid and it feels and operates smoothly. I'm very impressed. Crown moulding presets are near perfect and I had a perfect outside corner in seconds Miter table adjusts very quickly. The detents are very nice and feel solid when engaging selected angles Table clamp. This is a nice little clamp they include with the saw. Very handy and I was impressed with some of it's quick adjusting features. Cons: Soft start feature. I'm not a fan. I work quickly and I found myself constantly waiting an extra half second each cut for the blade to get up to speed. Laser. While the laser is helpful and decently accurate it's not very bright. Working outside on a sunny day I could only see it if I moved my shadow over it. Size. This saw is a beast. While I love the stout construction is does not store very well. I wish it "folded" down a little bit more. It is also pretty heavy and while I have it mounted to my mobile cart having to move it without that would be a chore. Overall I'm very impressed and happy with this saw. It is a higher priced saw compared to many others but the old saying "you get what you pay for" still holds true. Quality is the first word that keeps coming to my mind when trying to describe this saw. My opinion of Makita products remains high after this purchase and I would highly recommend this saw to anyone. It is a solid investment that I'm sure will serve me for many years and projects to come. October 19, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great saw Love this as much as my previous model. Would buy another if needed. September 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best sliding compound available! I believe this saw is literally the most feature rich, compact and best built for accuracy and endurance that one can by! Cost less than the DeWalt and is better designed! September 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great saw Only used for a few weeks but after a bit of checking accuracy I was off and running. The best part is this saw will cut laminate counter top in two passes completely through. Very accurate and smooth cutting. Soft start is also a very nice feature. Did a lot of research on diffent saws and the only other choice was going to be the Bosch saw. Maybe I'll buy that one too. August 30, 2016
