What voltage is the Makita 2012NB and how many cutting blades is it?

Asked by: Anonymous
In in the USA and it's a regular 110v AC model. I think it has two blades but I just got this unit and hadn't needed to change out blades yet. It makes pretty nice cuts though, it does have snipe, like all planers in this range.

What are the MINIMUM length, width and thickness for boards being planed by the Makita 2012NB Thickness Planer?

Asked by: Anonymous
You can take strips of wood down to .5 mm BUT, you have to place it on a thicker and longer board first and run both through together. You know you have gotten to your limit when the piece you are planing disappears into the dust collector.

Wher do you purchase the dust hood and how much does it cost.

Asked by: Anonymous
I had to buy this extra, should be included, but it works pretty good.

15-Amp 12 in. Corded Portable Planer is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makita 15-Amp 12 in. Corded Portable Planer Was aiming at that planer long time until click "checkout now".Get this planer quickly thanks to Home Depot online services. I have unwrapped it and set to work right after. Setting the thickness is precise and easy and my stacks came out without any splines. I've tried at least 28 times. Thanks to Makita lock up system . I've tried Dewalt with three blades dw735 frequently had a splines and returned back to store. Makita cost same amount of money with optional dust collector hood but even having a two blades is doing much better and quieter job. I'm satisfied with Makita 2012 thickness (the best in the class) planer. Thanks again Makita

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well made machine The good: -Quite operation -Included folding in feed/out feed tables. -Very little snipe. 2-1/2 inches on the in feed, zero on the out feed for mine. Took about 15 seconds with 80 grit to clean it off. -Very smooth finish -Compact, and ready to go out of the box. The not so good: -The 3 inch, hard to find dust hood needs to be included. Finding adapters to fit it to your vacuum or D.E. will take some hunting. Overall I am very pleased with the performance of this machine and at about $60.00 less than the other top rated planer that begins with a 'D' and colored yellow, it's also a better buy. -Aaron

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good enough Cut quality is good, easy to use, still have lots of snipe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the buck. I researched the heck out of planers, and am very happy with my purchase. My first use with it was to plane 100 board feet of really hard hickory. It performed flawlessly. And much like other reviewers it had a glasslike finish. The lack of packaging is true...it just sits in a thick cardboard box on a thick cardboard base that is cut to the footprint of the machine. Fortunately mine was in excellent shape out of the box. I also purchased the dust cover but didn't install it yet because of the difference in the size of the chute to the size of my shopvac hose. The amount of shavings that I produced with the first job would have filled my shop vac twice or more and I have a big shop vac. It produces a ton of shavings. Very happy with purchase and would highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth the money This is by far the nicest planer I've ever had!! It's relatively light weight, small, surprisingly quiet, and easily handles a full 12 inch wide board up to 6 inches thick. I have not run any hardwoods through it yet, but based on how nicely it finished fir, pine, redwood, and cedar, I suspect it will have no trouble with harder materials. If you don't have a chip removal system I recommend either using it outside or hooking a large shop vac to it, but be carefull, the vac fills up quickly.
