The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion 3.0 Ah Battery (2-Pack) charges faster and works longer than standard lithium-ion batteries, giving your cordless tools exceptional performance and productivity to take on the most demanding applications. The battery has a category-leading charge time of only 30 minutes, so it spends more time working and less time sitting on the charger, and also resists self-discharge so it's ready for use even after long periods of inactivity. It works with the Makita Rapid Optimum Charger (sold separately), a smart-charging system that communicates with the battery during the charging process to monitor current, voltage and temperature, which helps optimize battery life and deliver a faster charge. The charger also has a built-in fan to cool the battery for faster and more efficient charging, even in hot weather conditions. In addition, Makita's Star Protection Computer Controls allow the tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating.

This item is out of stock again. Is there an anticipated date that inventory will be available?

Can two single BL-1830 be purchased for the 2-pack price? Quite a bit of difference in price.

Will my 18YKSL charger charge the new BL1830-2 batteries?

The package of the new BL 1830-2 batteries lists compatible chargers. The 18YKSL is not listed as a compatible charger. Also, I have not removed the security tab on the battery to see if it fits.

Charging with DC18RC does NOT indicate full charge

While these batteries appear to charge properly with the DC18RC, the charger does not detect when the batteries are fully charged. can someone confirm this?
Asked by: magwar
Actually, after one round of using the batteries until they're nearly empty, the DC18RC charger worked properly on these batteries and indicated when they were fully charged. Hope this helps.

Is this the new generation of Makita battery?

I'm wondering whether this is the newer generation of the Makita battery, denoted by a large embossed star on the top of the battery and a printed star on the label (near the recycle cicrle) on the bottom of the battery. Please let me know. Grant
Asked by: Grant
Grant, while the battery may be of the newest type, it's really the tool that matters most. The 1830 3 Amp batteries are the only ones that will work with tools that do not have a yellow battery receptacle or the large star logo on the battery receiver. This is meant to provide people with older Makita tools some legacy support, but it can lead to trouble for the users. If you use these batteries with tools that have neither the large star logo nor the yellow battery seat, you need to exercise caution. These tools will not throttle output when the battery overheats, potentially leading to permanent battery damage. Makita has never explained this properly to consumers, so you'll see a lot of negative comments about these batteries burning out.

Seems to me that this product should be in stock all the time. Normally, when one needs batteries for their cordless tools, they need them quickly, and don't want to have to wait to have them shipped to the store/home. Other than that, these are great batteries. With constant use, I get about 2, 2.5 years out of them. I've left them out in the freezing cold, with no consequences.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Makita Purchased the 2 piece cordless combo kit a little over a year ago and the batteries (2.0)both died. I was not impressed with the new Makita 18 volt lithium batteries since my old 18 volt Dewalt batteries were still working over 3 years later. Anyway I chose to purchase the new 2 pack 3.0 Makita batteries and so far they work great. Just hoping they last a little longer then 18 months.
