for these 2 hammerdrill, I noticed the difference between brush vs brushless:
(1) is this the only difference or there are other functional/capacity changes
(2) except you need to change the brush after using the tool for a while, are there other disadvantages? In your opinion, is brushless definitely better than brushed? what other advantages/disadvantages for brushless

Makita’s efficient BL™ Brushless motor is electronically controlled to optimize battery energy use for up to 50% longer run time per charge than similar non-brushless tools. Electronic controls efficiently use battery energy to match torque and RPM to the changing demands of the application for increased power and speed when needed. And since there are no carbon brushes, the BL™ Brushless motor runs cooler and more efficiently for longer life. Comparison by products is that the LXPH05 is an impressive mid-range hammer driver-drill that has been engineered to deliver maximum speed (0-1,500 RPM) and power (400 in.lbs. of torque) while keeping a compact size. Now, the LXPH03 is our flagship Hammer Driver-Drill delivering the most speed (0-2,000) and power (750 in.lbs.of Max torque) within our lineup. But the 18V BL1815 seems not to be working with the LXPH03, the battery cannot be inserted to the drill 's battery compartment. What happened? Is my battery or my too having some problem? Or the battery simply cannot be fit for the tool?

Answer:
Hi John, unfortunalety, the BL1815 compact battery will not fit the teal/black tools.
Those tools are meant to work with the high capacity batteries.
The BL1830 high capacity battery will work with all Makita 18 volt tools.
This battery will work with compact tools as well as full size tools.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.0 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by what a waste Just to say I'm a big makita fan. I bought the makita brushless because I needed an upgrade plus needed a hammer drill. I bought this product in May an it already broke internally in Sept. When I apply pressure to the hammer drill while I'm drilling it doesn't soon spin, it only spins internally inside the drill. You would think 340 bucks for a brand new brushless makita set would be alot more durable. I never dropped it in any way. I suggest buying ryobi hammer drill, why? So when it breaks it won't hurt your pocket. Plus called makita to give me a new one since its still warranty they said no they would try repairing it first. Makita lost my loyalty and respect. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Makita brushless drill Makita makes good products. I chose the brushless Which can only be ordered online because you can go harder and longer without worrying about brushes burning out. It hasn't disappointed. It just took forever to get it from homedepot.com Hopefully I'll never have to order from them again unless I don't mind waiting on hold for over an hour just to find out it'll take 3 business days to find out where and what happened to my order that took around a month to finally receive. And no sympathies on Home Depot's end either. July 30, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by can't believe it The Makita hammer drill Burned out after 3 months of just drilling holes through styrofoam panels December 31, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great so far, quiet and efficient I have a standard 18V Li Makita brush type motor drill, which is a great product, but went thru first brushes in 16 months. havent replaced them yet (only $5) but found this new Brushless drill available without the battery or charger, which is great as I already had these from my standard 18V Makita setup. I noticed this drill is faster, quieter, and runs twice as long or more between charges, and not quite as heavy my other Makita, easy to handle all day. have had it for a few weeks and so far love this new Brushless drill. Kudos to Makita for the high - tech! ~R in Puyallup WA August 8, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A new product line Having only recently purchased this drill I can't say anything about it's durability. All the members of my crew use Makita products (I am their example) and we have all had problems with the drill motors with brushes and their very short lifespan. If this item proves as disappointing I will urge them all to look to other product lines for the reliability we need. December 31, 2013
