This is undoubtedly a great driver however it has been discontinued by Makita and replaced with the XDT01 model. I have a 14.4v cordless drill from back in 1997 and it still works like new. So don't fear that they will not support this tool anymore. I bought a new battery and charger a few years ago and have never had to replace the brushes. These new ones are brushless anyway. They'll last a very long time if you take care of it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by Blake Impressive battery life and power
I use this tool on a daily basis for work, and my production has increased since purchasing the new brushless model. I was previously using the BTD142HW and was satisfied, but now after using the brushless impact, I could never go back. The speed of the brushless motor and the torque behind it has taken a task that used to take 15 min and cut it almost in half. The lag bolts bite much faster, and the motor just won't quit. The tool's power and speed may not make the biggest difference in the world, but the difference in life of the battery is HUGE! I used to go through about 2 or 3 battery charges a day with the BL1815 on my old impact, and now 1 charge on the BL1830 with the new brushless motor can last almost all week. After getting the drill, I brought it inside to charge the batteries properly then took it to work. After completing 4 days worth of work, the "low battery" light indicator started blinking at me.
The one bad thing I do have to say about Makita is that the batteries aren't supposed to be charged for 15 or 30 minutes then removed from the charger and put to use. If you read the manual on the charger, it says that it is best to let the battery sit for an additional 30-60 AFTER the 15 or 30 min quick charge (based on the size of the battery) to "cool down." If you advertise a quick charger that is supposed to be done in 30 min, don't make the batteries so that they need to stay on for an additional hour to get a (true) full charge. I will have to compare with other brands to see if they all say that. Also, why are the chargers so expensive? It is twice as much for a Makita charger than it is for any other brand's single battery charging unit.
Overall, I love my Makita's performance, and the battery life on the new motors has saved me so much time. I can't wait for the brushless hammer drill/driver.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by Alex Best Impact Driver I've ever used
This is the best impact driver that I've ever used. For one it's brushless motor enables the batteries to last much longer than a traditional brushed motor. Another great feature is the LED lighted gear switching button, which at first I was not sure of, but it's continued flawless operation and ease of use has easily overcome my initial concerns. It's motor has more than enough power to complete any task at hand. In fact, I use it in second gear most of the time because third gear usually has too much power for most applications as well as I intermittently use it in first gear too to prevent screw stripping for more fragile tasks. Which I would like to point out to anyone considering purchasing a impact driver to purchase one with three gears instead of two or just one because it will severely limit the applications that it can be used. This impact driver is a work horse for me and I really don't have any complaints as I have not had any problems with it even after it surviving some ten foot falls off the ladder/tree (I need a better tool belt). Power tools are my life because they enable me to complete the quicker without compromising quality and in actuality improving it. The next time you see wood screws not sunk flush into the wood you can probably chalk it up to the contractor lacked a great impact driver such as this one. The improved version of this impact driver is the LXDT06, but I'm satisfied with this one

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by G8trdun huge difference
Bought it on sale and on an impulse. Use it daily on the job. Like other reviews, it can/will drive lag bolts without a lot of effort. Lightweight and convenient and the case has plenty of room to leave plenty of most used drivers without making it a jigsaw puzzle to get the case closed.. The only thing that I don't like is that everyone want's to grab it and use and I have to chase it down.
Wish I would have stepped up to the pump and purchased before spending the money on others that now sit in waiting as back up (or for using the batteries for snakelights/flashlights)...
May be a little pricey for the homeowner, but worth the investment for the professional that get's tired of wearing out tools... Been using almost daily for 6 months and it still performs like new.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0Â by turbotourch The three speeds give you better control for screw depths
The battery life is great. The brushless tech. does give you alot more battery life. The speeds also help and the lite weight compact style is also great.
