How long should the battery last

I am planning on cutting large stone pieces. Stone is ~18" wide, and will be cutting as deep as possible to score and break. Repeat that about 20 times. I have a corded grinder, but do not have electricity...
Asked by: jesse
Not to be vague, but it all depends on what size battery, what you're cutting/grinding, etc. I can tell you from experience with this grinder compared to other cordless ( non brushless) grinders that the run time is pretty good. Just have to let the tool do the work and not bare down on it.

18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion 4-1/2 in. Cordless Cut-Off/Angle Grinder (Tool-Only) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good portable Grinder Bought this grinder for getting stuff off cars at the junkyard. I have a corded version that I use for at home use that is a very cheap brand but I wanted the good stuff when it comes to cordless. I haven't been to the junkyard yet but just as a test I used this to cut off some seized up sway bar end link bolts on a GMC Envoy. These bolts were inside of bushings that I had to cut through that were very sticky but the overload protection helped to prevent the tool from catching and kicking back at me. Cut the bolts like it was nothing and the 4.0AH battery still showed the full charge. Good ergonomic design and it looks good to boot. The included wheel however was only good for one bolt before it got really chowdered and started coming apart. Can't wait to take this to the junkyard and give it some use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful ! ! ! - So NOT ready for Prime Time Awful ! ! ! - So NOT ready for Prime Time I like my other Makita Tools and this one is literally useless as a grinder... Perhaps it would do OK with a Flap wheel or wire brush or something and even the lightest tap with a cut-off wheel had the overload trip and red lights flash necessitating the power switch be cycled OFF and then ON to get to reactivate until the next overload of this wimpy "tool". I will try the Makita Brushless version of their grinder next to see if it is ready for prime time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great grinder-- 3 minutes, my butt! Among imitators in the cordless "grinder" game, this is the king! Most other cordless "grinders" are actually called cut-off tools, because they don't spin fast enough to be considered or marketed as a grinder. 10,000 rpm is the real deal--just as fast as most electric 4 1/2" grinders! For such a reasonable price, I wasn't expecting a lot, but I was pleasantly surprised by this unit. Not only does it have the high speed I like, it has a rubberized handle that is very comfortable, access to the brushes for maintenance, and overload protection, which keeps the motor from burning up from the user pushing too hard (great for those guys who think you have to put all your weight down on a grinder, when all that does is slow down the wheel and reduce performance). As far as the 1-star review that said it only gives 3 minutes of run-time, I don't know what they're talking about. I've cut plenty of stuff with this and never had a complaint. If you expect all-day use, get an electric. I guarantee this will run longer than just about any other full-speed cordless grinder, and cost a heck of a lot less!
