Customer Questions & Answers

I own a Makita 18-volt Lithium-ion drill (model XFD01CW) and am looking for an impact driver that uses the same batteries. Is this one compatible?

Asked by: Tilly
Check to see if the battery has a star on it when you remove it from the drill, if it does then it should work

What is the battery and charger cost?
Asked by: Bencia
Buy a combo kit, if you buy each separate it'll cost you a fortune

How does it hold up in wet conditions? I've heard brushless drills quit in just a little rain

Asked by: Electrician
The tool you are referencing is the 18V LXT Brushless Impact Driver (XDT08), and per the tool’s instruction manual: Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Note that select Makita tools are equipped with Xtreme Protection Technology (XPT), an interior seal inside the tool that is engineered to provide increased dust and water resistance in harsh job site conditions. Makita 18V LXT Impact Drivers with XPT include the following brushless models: XDT09M/XDT09MB/XDT09Z and XST01/XST01Z. Non-brushless 18V LXT Impact Drivers with XPT include models XDT04/XDT04Z and XDT111/XDT11R/XDT11Z. Additional Makita cordless tools equipped with XPT includes select driver-drills, hammer driver-drills, and job site radios, as well as select 18V and 18V X2 Power Equipment including cordless blowes and trimmers.

18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless 1/4 in. Cordless Impact Driver (Tool-Only) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tool The drill is excellent for both removing old screws in my deck and installing new ones. I purchased the tool in order to replace the stairs as well as to replace some of the original screws which were no longer flush with the decking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Motor Burned Up. I bought the combo kit with the drill, two batteries, impact, and charger. Both tools brushless. I've used the brushed 18v impacts and drills extensively for years. The brushed are inexpensive, take a beating, and keep working. and the guys abuse the brushed ones by running the batteries completely flat. You're supposed to charge them when there's a noticeable loss of power. So that's why i bought the Makita. I assumed the same quality between the brushed and brushless. Now, in Makita's defense, this is the first time i seen one fail that hasn't been severely abused including using it as a quick hammer substitute. Also, it lasted about 30lbs of 3 inch framing screws. Also also, might just have been a lemon. And in Makitas defense, their gun (impact and drill) are the smoothest and nicest built ones of the big 3 (Makita, Milwaukee, and DeWalt). They are really really nice tools. Trigger/throttle is smooth and nicely proportionate with nice weight and nice pull. Selector is very nice and crisp. I liked the tool much more than the other tool. Just disappointed. If no one else has this problem, i strongly recommend this tool. You won't be disappointed. If others are having this problem, then you should approach cautiously.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its not just an improvement on other models its Leaps and Bounds over them This impact side by side with the rest of our crews gear, Oh btw this has been used everyday for over a year in construction,so side by side with the other drill driver gear, all Makita, it easily surpasses those other models in speed and performance. When just grabbing a single impact off the truck this one is the first to get pulled out now. This model vs. the makita white economy model (which is also good btw) that most people in the field seem to have now have a vast difference when it comes to capable productivity. The speed and power with which this model performs above others coupled with the capacity of battery being used more efficiently for longer run time simply means less time to do the same job, less downtime, and more time doing the actual tasks at hand. Also In bus dollars spent=cost, which this saves in man hours and equipment cost b/c longer lasting motor. If your in the market for an impact driver you can stop looking you found it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from way cool tool It's a great tool. I like the size, the power and weight. It makes my job easier daily!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid impact driver This impact driver is pretty good. I use it daily with 3/8 sockets and it holds up well. Battery life is better than the standard model. I have owned the older impact driver for about 5 years. And this new brushless model for about 3 months. Overall: Power = same. Battery life = moderate increase. Durability?... Haven't dropped it yet! It feels like the power output is reduced drastically. You might be expecting the power range your RC car gets when you upgrade to brushless, but what you are actually getting is much different. I'm guessing that running full power through this sucker would destroy the impact driver bits very quickly.... Or out perform their 1/2" cordless impact. Bottom line? The standard impact driver is fine. This just has better battery life. You decide if the extra money is worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from solid tool at a great price Very happy with the tool. A lot of torque in a small size. Makes your drill go back to drilling holes.
