The Makita 18-volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 2-Piece Combo Kit is built for the pro-user who requires best-in-class cordless tools for drilling, hammer drilling, driving and fastening. The LXT218 includes a ½ in. hammer driver-drill with high torque and high speed, as well as a powerful impact driver that weighs only 3.3 lbs. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18-volt Lithium-Ion series, the world’s largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18-volt Lithium-Ion slide-style battery. Makita 18-volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tool I am very satisfied with my new battery operated chain saw. It is all I hoped for. Even though I was confused about the lack of batteries and charger, I now understand the "bare tool" concept. November 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Makita does rechargables right. Since the earliest NiCad rechargeable drills, Makita does rechargeable tools right. The quality of many of the major brand drills is very similar in operation. What sets the Makita apart from others is the charging. If you look at the Makita battery, you will see an air channel. When a battery is placed in the charger, a fan kicks on that cools the Lithium cell while charging. I've seen other brands get the cell really hot. This drastically reduced the life, compared to a controlled temperature charge of Makita. This attention to detail is why their batteries last so long (not in runtime, but in calendar months of charge and discharge cycles.) April 21, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Tools Good price, took awhile to find the correct model # hammer drill online. Much stronger than any other model I have tried! I have owned Makita cordless tools since they came out.. They are Better and Better every time I upgrade. Quick shipping Thanks Home Depot. Long lasting batteries with incredible power and torque. As always great customer service. Thumbs all UP! December 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Worth every penny I have wanted a quality impact wrench and hammer drill for a bit, and I got this set during a Makita specific promotion (not Home Depot related) where purchasing the set nabbed you an extra LXT 18-Volt battery through the mail. That was extra icing on an already rich cake. The kit includes the impact wrench, a hammer drill that can also be used as a standalone screwdriver (with and without torque control), a charger, two batteries, and the case. Priced separately, the two tools plus the charger cost more than the set, not to mention the case and the promotion battery (which is the same battery included for each tool). None of this matters if the tools don't work, but that is not the case. I built out my own workbench without charging the impact wrench once. Being an intermediate DIYer, I over-engineered the workbench to crazy degrees, and ended up with more than 150 screws in the thing at the end. I'm pretty sure I could park an SUV on the bench and it wouldn't break. More importantly, the impact wrench never behaved differently from the first to the last screw. It had all the power needed throughout the project and was ready for more. The hammer drill is adjustable to be a true hammer drill, a regular cordless screwdriver, and a cordless screwdriver with torque control for when you need more precise control. I haven't used it as much, but it was great with a masonry drill bit while replacing the front door threshold where I had to drill into the concrete slab. Both tools include lights that engage when the trigger is lightly pressed (before the tool starts) to help with dark areas and difficult to see angles. And both are extremely powerful, especially for cordless tools. Both also use Makita's high-end 18V LXT batteries, and the included charger will charge them in 30 minutes or less. There's pretty much nothing negative I can think of with these so far. The impact wrench has a simple pull-insert loading system for bits (no tools required), and the hammer drill is chuck-less -- a little grip and reversal of rotation handles loading and unloading. Note that the hammer drill is not an impact hammer; the latter is more of a destruction thing, while the included tool is a great screwdriver that will handle masonry and other hard surfaces easily. Combine all this with the case and, in my case, the no-brainer promotion (the batteries are $99 each when purchased, but a freebie in the promotion), and we have another Makita winner. The promotion was even fulfilled in around 10 days. I was expecting the usual "6 to 8 weeks" that are the norm with mail-in promotions. Makita FedEx'd the battery. Zero complaints all the way around. Rated 5 out of 5 by The battery last a long time. I have been using my Makita remodeling a bathroom and I have not had to charge the battery yet. I have had it for 3 months. It is amazing. I only wish it had the same warranty as Rigid tools (Lifetime on batteries and tools). I would recommend this tool to anyone but I would also inform them of the Rigid warranty. March 9, 2013
