Product Overview

The 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Compact Band Saw (model XBP01Z, tool only) combines speed and capacity in a compact size for a full range of metal cutting applications. It is part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt cordless line-up, with 70+ tools powered by one fast-charging 18-Volt Lithium-Ion battery (sold separately). The 18-Volt Band Saw has a compact size and weighs only 7.5 lbs., which is up to 25% less weight than top competitors in the 18-Volt category. In addition, it has a cover over the blade (outside the cutting area), which meets ANSI Standard 60745-2-20 and qualifies the saw as suitable for appropriate one-handed operation. The XBP01 is powered by a Makita built motor that delivers 630 ft. in. blade speed for faster, more efficient cutting. The saw accepts standard 32-7/8 in. x 1/2 in. blades and with a 2-1/2 in. cutting capacity it is ideal for cutting conduit, Unistrut, copper pipe, threaded rod, angle iron and channel.

18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Compact Band Saw (Tool-Only) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Blade Fix So I had the same problem with the blade walking off the wheels. After much research and reading through the reviews , a couple guys stated you have to tighten the set screw behind the tension wheel. This works! one half turn and its as good as new. Makita should put this in their instructions because this seems like a common problem and I was very close to returning this band saw and writing a bad review. Just to re cap. 1. loosen tension wheel ( lever) 2. remove blade\ 3. using the hex key on the tool, loosen and remove top tension wheel. 4. using a small hex key, tighten small black set screw one half turn. 5. put back and tighten tension wheel 6. install blade. 7. flip lever to tighten blade. 8.. close lid. 9. cut away!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Band of Brothers I’ve written this in a previous post for Makita and I will write it again. Why a tool is sold WITHOUT its battery is beyond me. I don’t understand why the consumer should have to buy his own battery for the product in addition to the product itself. Maybe this is due to having a modular battery pack that can be used in multiple tools, but who cares if you have a ton of battery packs lying around? That’s just more time for you to work with the tool and recharge another pack. Anyway, besides that gripe, the compact band saw works great. It easily saws and has plenty of power which is easy to control. Slicing through wood and even conduit pipe was relatively effortless. The tool is ergonomic and not too heavy. The size is impressively small (it is compact after all) for the amount of power this tool can produce and it allows you to use it in more confined spaces. Again, I think it’s another quality Makita product that will stand the test of time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not worth the money Bought this because I use Makita tools for a living. My coworkers have the Milwaulkee brand and love it. I used the tool 5 times before it broke. It is now in the repair shop. How long will I be without it?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight, with plenty of power Weighing in around 7.5 lbs , I found the band saw is very easy to operate, even when cutting over head. The blade wheels are fully enclosed, so you can use this one handed without any safety concerns. The cutting area is illuminated with an LED light, perfect for cutting in dark or enclosed areas. I found the saw, with the battery attached, to be well balanced, and the soft grip handle helped prevent fatigue. Blade changes are completely tool free. Simply pop the blade wheel cover open, release the tensioner level, and pull out the old blade. The band saw had a built in hook for hanging on your tool belt or tool shop pegboard when not in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best cordless tool in my collection yet! I've been doing electrical and control work for 20 years. I have used everything from hacksaws to sawzalls to corded portabands and this gives me the best of all the metal cutting saws I have ever used...lightweight, powerful and one handed ease of operation. I have borrowed other battery operated portaband from friends and have to admit that the Makita surpasses anything I tried. The only downer is that I haven't seen a hard case offered for it yet by Makita and that would make a world of difference in protecting it when not in use.
