But #1: The Radio uses proprietary Makita batteries which don't come with the radio, and are not charged inside the radio. You can run it without a battery if you plug it in.
But #2: You don't have control over Bass / Treble.
But #3: The blue display backlight is nice, but it automatically shuts off after 10 seconds. Would be nice if it would stay on. Would be even better if the background was black and the numbers lit up.
Stereo audio jack to plug iPod into
Sound level is more than adequate unless you're working with a jackhammer.
Built like the proverbial brick outhouse.
Looks "military" - I like it.
NOTE: You can get a small sealed 12VDC lead acid battery and wire it to the internal contacts, and drill a hole in the rear cover for a jack to connect a charger. This is what Makita should have done. They are trying to get you to use THEIR batteries so you buy their tools, which is OK, I guess, but using a standard battery pack or a set of hi-capacity D or C batteries that charge inside the radio would have made it more attractive for those who are NOT contractors or have Makita tools.
If you don't use a battery, you can store the AC adapter inside the battery compartment when you're transporting the radio; if not, you could put a 6" meatball hero in here with room to spare ;-)

He already had one of these radios at work and wanted one for home. As they are rather expensive, he didn't feel he could spend the money on another so we got him one for Father's Day

Does not recharge batteries. Does not run off of the smaller 18v batteries my drill/impact combo pack came with, even though they fit in the battery slot on the back. Power pack and cord to cumbersome to try to fit in the back for storage. Sound is too bassy and can't adjust. Antenna doesn't fold down, so it will break off eventually, or be lost. Does not come close to being good enough to replace my DeWalt job site radio. I guess I was spoiled. I'm returning this to HD. Very dissatisfied.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by NinthServant I like it! A lot!
I purchased this radio several years ago after I got tired of the $40 boom boxes getting destroyed after a couple of months. It had been abused by me right up until the time that someone removed it from the back of my truck, at which time I replaced it, and worked great all that time.
I like the sound of this radio a lot. The only time I have a problem with reception is because of the area I am in. I work alone, so the sound is great for me. I also like the input jacks for the mp3/iPod's. I do agree that the one in the rear could have been located in better place, like lower in the cabinet so a straight input jack could be used.
I am sure it is nifty to be able to charge the battery while it is plugged in, but I do not miss that feature at all. Because I use my Makita screw gun a lot, I have 3 batteries, one for the radio and two for the drill(the larger version). This way I always have a fresh battery ready to use when one of them drains out. By the time the next battery is done, the next one is ready to use.
If I ever kill this thing, I will probably replace it with another.

This stereo has a nice sound and good volume and bass response for it's size. Recently used it camping with the larger 3.0 amp hour 18v lithium battery and it lasted over 12 hours at around 10-12 volume (goes up to 25) without dying. It will start to distort in the bass at the highest volumes. My only problems are with the design. It is very sturdy in its construction with metal bars in front of the controls so they don't get smashed. It could really use at least one courtesy outlet to charge an ipod which the dewalt work stereos do have (or at least a usb plug for that) as well as a battery indicator.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Welder Very poor quality radio
It only has two small speakers that are on the side of it which direct the sound away from where you are and if you turn the sound all the to the max, which is only 25, the music blasts and you can't understand anything. I do not recommend this product.
