Answer:
Obviously electric will always have more oomph than cordless, but as far as any other 18v/20 volt max, this thing is solid. I've cut cutouts in fiber cement board , notches in pressure tested lumber, and cut out old fiberboard siding with no problem. When you need an oscillating tool and don't want to screw with a cord, it's top notch

Answer:
It should be. The newer model number "scheme" (vs old model numbers that started "BSS"), should be compatible with any Makita LXT battery with the star, which includes all 2.0 ah batteries

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Couldn't be Happier! I got this for my Birthday and love it! who wouldn't be happy about no more cords. lol. I wish Makita would at least throw in a branded tool bag to store and protect the Tool only line up. I give this tool 5 stars cause I know it is what it is and it is great! August 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Makita quality as expected Expected a quality product and it did not disappoint. April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! Best da__ (can't say that here) sawzall ever! Fast and strong. Good batt. life Makita! Enough said! Love it! Best da__ (can't say that here) sawzall ever! Fast and strong. Good batt. life December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Typical Makita.............Perfect The LXT tool system is excellent in every way and this reciprocating saw performs as expected. It offers oustanding performance especially for smaller jobs. The best application for these cordless tools I have found is the ability to have high performance and stay safe. I have used the cordless tools everywhere, but I appreciate them the most when working on a pitched roof, or any other place where a cord poses a serious safety risk. Remember, this is not a extreme demolition tool. It is however a great reciprocating saw. Remember, always keep your receipt. Makita has a 3 year warranty on LXT tools and they stand behind their products. August 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's a Makita wanted one of these for years. have had a corded Makita recip for 20+ years. works fine just wanted the cordless model. worked great for a plumbing project. thanks May 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good tool with plenty of power! I have been plumbing for 30 years and seen the cordless tools develop into what they are today, and i have to say this has as much power as a lot of corded reciprocal saws!! I have a Dewalt 18v sawzall and this saw has a lot more power !! the only other one i have used with this much power is the Milwaukee 18v. I need tools i can depend on to get the job done and this Makita saw is one such tool. December 25, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't do it! This reciprocating saw is a great tool, however, should you decide to purchase it, be prepared to dish out an additional $100 for the charger and another $50 for the battery, or more! February 1, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by mislabled product I have a Makita 18 Volt ion drill set. I believed that the batteries would work on the saw but when I purchased the saw and took it home the batteries would not fit. I spoke to the Makita rep at Home Depot and he told me that you need a bigger battery and they cost $99.00. I returned the saw and received a credit. Nowhere was there a sign saying that it took a special battery. I am a disabled Vet on a fixed income and it would have been too much money. July 8, 2014
