Yes, I have higher capacity batteries I have used interchangably. The chargers are interchangable as well.

Yes, you can use higher capacity ampere hour battery. However, the battery must be 18 V.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Last drill you'll ever buy I've had this drill for about two years and have yet to be disappointed. I am a telecom installer and use the drill primarily with hole saws and installing drywall anchors. I've had the drill fall off a two-story roof and a bumper driving down the street with hardly a scratch. I'm guessing that it must be reinforced with adamantium. The only bothersome things about this drill are a lack of a built-in bubble level and a charge indicator on the batteries. I would definitely purchase again if somehow I ever had to.

I have owned Makita products for years in fact my first cordless was a Makita 9.6 v and lasted us about 10 years I was impressed. Now with lithium ion being the new all that battery I was excited to get a new Makita. It worked great the first year then just after 1 year one battery wouldnt charge so I went to Home Depot sorry out of warranty they told me. A new battery is 84.99 however a promo kit drill and one battery was 99.99 so I bought that. Now a little over a year later both batteries don't charge. Google it a big problem but Makita won't do a thing. By by Makita hello Rigid lifetime battery warranty.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Premature Battery Failure You may want to think twice before buying this kit. After very limited use, and shortly after the warranty expired, one of the two batteries died. I'm seeing numerous instances of this in the reviews, so I'd think that the company would initiate a recall. Not good for Makita's otherwise pretty good reputation.

My only issue with the purchase is the fact that Home Depot shipped it in the carrying case with no protection. It got scuffed up during shipping. Carrying cases for power tools get that way. But brand new gifts should NEVER arrive that way. C'mon man, can't afford a box?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little drill I bought this drill 2 years ago and used it hard since. It is very light weight and has enough power for most uses. This week it final gave up and burned up the clutch, due to me as I abuse everything. I have dropped it off a roof a few times, used it in rain storms and after I replace the clutch it will keep going. Excellent little drill!
