Heading out to the garage, BRB ... Just removed the chuck and put it back on, the chuck screws onto the spindle, no screw. To remove the chuck: tighten the chuck onto the short end of a 3/8" or 1/2" Allen wrench, there is a location just aft of the chuck for a thin spanner wrench but just smacking the Allen wrench with a rawhide or rubber mallet counterclockwise will also do the job. Remember, the threads are left handed. So, it could be the assembly of the chuck onto the shaft and may have been cross threaded at the factory. -OR- the spindle itself is the issue??? For an occasional use they will probably be fine depending on how long you make cuts. The bottom line is the 1.5ah batteries charge in 15 minutes and if you already have two they will get you by for a job that does not demand a lot of cutting. Admittedly I did buy the 3.0ah battery just to be on the safe side. The 1.5ah batteries run the saw just fine and I have not made enough cuts to take one down to a point of recharge. I use the saw for the quick uses where I am too lazy to drag out the extension cord and my plug in Makita circular saw. Read Less

18-Volt Lithium-Ion Compact Combo Kit (2-Tool) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 268.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just a heads up keep an eye out for the new model The picture of the impact drill shows the new version (LXDT04CW), while the specifications states that it includes the old, now discontinued version (BTD142HW). I was confused by this and called Makita and they told me that the impact drill in the kit depends on if the store you buy it from sold out of all the discontinued impact combo kits because they don't ship the new ones to stores until they sell out of the discontinued model (without lowering its price or changing the model number of the combo kit). The box does not state that model number of the impact drill inside it, but you can tell which is inside it by looking at the max torque. The new version is 1420 in/lbs while the discontinued model was 1280 in/lbs. So if you care whether or not you get the new impact vs the older discontinued model, make sure to check the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makita Combo set Makita drills have been my favorite since I bought my first one 30 years ago. This new set does not disappoint, light weight, torque to spare, comfortable grip, battery run time is outstanding. Was a little leery about it being compact size but size does not matter in this case. The smaller size has let it do jobs that may have been to tight for a traditional full size drill. In the start process of a whole house rehab, used it everyday, literally, has not failed to do anything I ask of it. By the way, this was a fathers day gift from my adult daughter, Michelle, thanks again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Drill-Driver! This drill has good torque — lots of drilling and driving power in a more lightweight tool than the Ni-Cad drill I replaced. It's a nice bonus to get the impact driver as part of the kit. I thought I would have preferred a hard case, but the soft-sided case is well-made, seems durable, and has lots of nice built-in storage pockets for drill and screwdriver bits.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great drill/driver set for beginner diy'er For the price you can't find a better set, unfortunately the set comes with the 18v 1.5Ah compact batteries, which only fit these drills and maybe 2 other tools. I returned the set and bought the Makita LXT211 set instead, same drills but teal-colored and it comes with the 3.0Ah batteries.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BUY! BUY! BUY! As you can tell by the title that I highly recommend this set. I have been needing an impact driver for some time and just recently I had a fence job to do which required driving lag screws so I went ahead got this set. First of all, the price for these 2 Makita lithium Ion compact drills is a steal. Second, I am a subscriber to Wood Magazine and they recently ran an article comparing all the new drills and the Makita drivers were the top pick by the authors. For my job, I pulled the impact driver straight out of the box and used it to drive 48 2" lag screws into 2 1/2" wood plus tightening several tie post clamps. It was perfect. I did have to switch batteries once but it was after at least 3/4 of the job was done. The drill driver is a perfect fit as well. I compared it to another yellow colored drill and it sure kept pace screw for screw. O, and the best thing about these drills with the new battery packs is that they are super lite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Drills I purchased this on sale 2 years ago. I use it almost everyday: some days only for a few minutes, and some days all day long. We have built several handi-cap ramps containing hundreds of screws. You can't go wrong with this set. I recommend you purchase the large (additional) battery when you purchase the drill. The batteries that come with this set are great, but I can build almost a whole deck with a full change on the large battery. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one of these sets if anything ever happens to the one I own.
Date published: 2014-02-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome drills great product These drills are great products that Makita is famous for producing. Battery power and run time is awesome and runs for a long time. Building shed with 2x4 and plywood never slowed down until the battery started dying after putting the screws in on 3 sides of the shed, very impressive impact driver. The drill works great for pre-drilling the screw holes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Combo Kit Lightweight, fast battery charge and love the light that stays on before/after you use it. My only problem occured with the first one I purchased. When I opened it at home, I thought the inside packing looked "loose". I put one of the batteries on to charge and noticed scratches on it. It had either been used and returned, or someone managed to replace a "bad battery" with a new one from the box. I returned to the store and exchanged for the last one on the shelf, but this time I iinspected it before I left the store. I think HD should inspect "returns" before they put them back on the shelf to sell at full price.
